Why not stay over in vibrant Palma? The capital boasts a superb old quarter and top-class restaurants.
About Majorca >Majorca is distinctly Mediterranean in character, both in its ways of life and its landscapes. What is most astonishing is the variety of scenery on such a relatively small island. At its heart lies a gently rolling plain whose almond groves provide a beautiful display of blossom each spring. This is bordered to the south and east by the hills which frame the island’s rugged, lesser-known coastline, while to the north rises the Tramuntana Sierra, whose craggy limestone peaks plunge into the sea. Aleppo pines, holm oaks, olives, carob and orange trees predominate, the latter bearing their main crop in January. The island’s gastronomy is excellent, the sea providing a range of fish – one of the most popular of which is sea-bass, sometimes baked in rock-salt – and seafood. Savour dishes such as caldereta de sambfaina, a lobster casserole; sopa mallorquina, made with bread, garlic and leeks; the ratatouille-style tumbet; and llom amb col – pork and pine nuts wrapped in cabbage leaves.

This Holiday in a nutshell
  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel cycling, luggage transported
  • rewarding cycling amongst richly varied landscapes
  • gentle discovery of unspoiled Mallorca
  • stay in delightful accommodation, with a pool at each

Link our two shorter holidays on Mallorca and discover varied landscapes, a rich gastronomic heritage and the deeply rural nature of the island as you cycle from the southern beaches to the dramatic north coast and the original ‘Costa Brava’. This is a side of the island that few tourists experience, and cycling here is a true delight, especially when combined with our selection of enchanting agroturismos and intimate country hotels offering a warm welcome and the freshest of local produce.
A truly spectacular cycling holiday from one coast to the other, following quiet lanes through peaceful villages. We loved every minute.

Your journey starts on the quiet lanes that wind amongst the salt flats and sand dunes of the southern coastal plain where ancient windmills reflect a less hurried pace of life. It continues through the fertile patchwork of ancient farms of the central plain where red soil contrasts sharply with the pale almond blossom in spring, the orchards of apricots and cherries and the deep green of ancient carob trees. Finally, the almond groves and tiny farmsteads give way to the limestone hills of the Llevant Sierra and the dramatic north-eastern coast punctuated by rocky coves and quiet beaches. Each day there is ample opportunity to either stop and linger over a coffee and delicious pastry, browse a local market or take a dip in the Mediterranean while you cycle from one village to the next.
