We have chosen the village of Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden not only for its beauty and sense of tradition, but also because it is well placed for exploring – you can take a boat trip across nearby Königssee, and discover towns of frescoed houses. Also in Bavaria, but further west, Hopfen-am-See is an equally superb choice, offering the chance to visit King Ludwig II's castles: Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
