Choose how much walking you want to do each day on a non-group, self-guided walking holiday with a choice of routes. Whether you walk from hotel to hotel while your luggage is transferred, or explore from a single hotel, our thoroughly researched route notes lead you through enchanting scenery.
Our flexible walking holidays use the same formula as our other walking holidays, allowing you to follow our lovingly compiled route notes at your own pace, with ample time to admire the flowers, the wildlife and the villages along the way, which is what Slow holidays are all about. The crucial difference is that you have a choice of routes each day, some of which are easier than others, so you can select the one that’s right for you on the day.
This flexibility also makes these holidays perfect for anyone who is unsure of their level, or for groups of friends or family who want to enjoy a walking holiday together, but who may not all be at the same fitness level.
Find the right holiday for you
Find a flexible walking holiday to suit you
Among our flexible hotel-to-hotel walking holidays are routes in the Dolomites, the Bernese Oberland and Norway’s Hardangerfjord. For even greater flexibility – and the chance for some sightseeing – you may prefer to opt for a centre-based holiday on which you explore from one or two hotels, usually with a hire car. Highlights of our selection of flexible centre-based walking holidays include colourful western Madeira, Mallorca, Asturias in northern ‘green’ Spain, the wild and untamed Norwegian island of Senja, glorious Provence, and an idyllic valley in northern Slovenia.
Although these holidays offer a choice of routes, you need to make sure that at least some of those options will be right for you, so familiarise yourself with our grading system. You’ll also need to decide between a hotel-to-hotel walking holiday, or a centre-based holiday featuring just one or two hotels.

Generally easy walking with few ascents / descents, but perhaps the occasional long day.
Grade 1-2
Easy-to-moderate walking with some ascents / descents, and occasional longer days.

Grade 3
Challenging hikes, featuring long days with significant ascent / descent on challenging terrain. Compass skills may be required.
