If you like longer routes, our moderate bicycle holidays are for you. Equipped with a high-quality bike and meticulously compiled route notes, you cycle self-guided and at your own pace from one welcoming hotel to another, while we transfer your luggage.
Although on no Inntravel bicycle holiday do you have to be a keen cyclist, we do offer a varied range of holidays (those graded 2) which cater for anyone who is looking for longer days in the saddle and more varied scenery. Although the routes are generally longer, there is still time to visit the places of interest that you pass, so you won’t miss out on monuments, viewpoints, museums or picturesque villages.
What’s more – as on any Inntravel bicycle holiday – you usually spend two nights at each charming hotel, giving you the chance for even more leisurely exploration (our lovingly compiled route notes will give you the lowdown on the options and, because you’re not in a group, the decision is entirely yours).
To give you a good idea of how we can tailor our trips to your individual requirements, take a look at the section of the website specifically devoted to travellers from outside the UK.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer to get the low-down on Inntravel holidays from someone who has first-hand experience, you can email Phil Wise. Based in California, Phil has taken many trips with us over the years, and will be happy to give you general information about travelling to Europe and the overall Inntravel holiday experience from an American perspective.
How Inntravel bicycle holidays are graded
Inntravel offers four different levels of bicycle holiday, all aimed at ‘amateur’ cyclists. To be sure that our moderate cycling holidays (grade 2) are right for you, read our grading system below. (Or you can upgrade to an electric bike to make pedalling easier; our grading system assumes you are using a ‘regular’ bike.)
Grade 1
Easy cycling for all with shorter days mainly on the flat, but some gentle ascents.
Grade 1-2
Easy-to-moderate cycling featuring undulating routes with more frequent short ascents, and a mix of shorter and longer days.
Grade 2
Moderate cycling with some longer, steady uphill sections, and longer days.
Grade 2-3
Fairly strenuous cycling featuring longer days with some sustained climbs.
Bicycle holidays, Inntravel style
There are three core ingredients to our bicycle holidays (and Inntravel holidays in general): timeless scenery; accommodation hand-picked by us for its warm hospitality; and traditional cuisine full of local flavours.
Trustworthy route notes
The route guides we provide are lovingly compiled by a dedicated team and continuously updated so that you can rely on them completely. Their purpose is not just to guide you from village to village at your own pace, but also to enhance your holiday experience by informing you about the cultural heritage and local ways of life.
Your holiday, your choice
Independent, non-group holidays enable you to stay in smaller, one-of-a-kind hotels, and plan each day to suit you. The benefits don’t stop there. You can choose when to start, if or at which hotels to add extra nights, and whether to travel to your holiday by air, rail or ferry – we’ll book travel arrangements tailored to your requirements.
