Winter snow breaks in Finland

Whatever your level, quiet Ylläs is a superb base for a cross-country skiing holiday in Finland in 2023/24. The non-skiing activities are also fantastic, providing an all-round Arctic winter experience including dog-sledding, snowshoeing, winter walking and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights.

Winter holidays in Finland – non-skiers

very welcome too!
‘Unforgettable’ sums up winter holidays in Finland, and the best news is that you don’t necessarily have to ski. Our Slow holiday philosophy places the emphasis on revelling in the serenity and beauty of the landscapes, be that on skis, snowshoes, a dog-sled, or on a torchlit stroll in search of the Northern Lights. You can enjoy all this – and more – from Ylläs, staying at a hotel praised for its hospitality and cuisine. For something completely different, opt for a tour of Nordic cities by rail and boat.

Cross-country skiing in Finland for all levels

Another reason for choosing Ylläs for your cross-country skiing holiday in Finland is that its network incorporates well over 300 kilometres of trails and caters exceptionally well for all levels (see our definitions below), including complete beginners, who can opt for our beginners' cross-country skiing week, or arrange lessons with an English-speaking instructor through the hotel.
  • No previous experience; requires lessons. Should stick to green trails for cross-country skiing or nursery slopes for downhill skiing.
  • Has skied before and technique is now sufficiently honed to tackle red routes with confidence.
  • Highly experienced. Able to cope with the most difficult of trails/pistes (those graded black).
