If you regularly get out for walks in the hills, our moderate walking holidays are for you. Armed with our meticulously compiled route notes, you walk self-guided and at your own pace either from a single base, or from one delightful hotel to another while we transfer your luggage.
Although our moderate walking holidays feature reasonably full days and undulating terrain, there’s still plenty of time to appreciate your surroundings – the little wayside chapel, the breeze rustling the leaves, the heron waiting for a fish – and we actively encourage you to do so. Our lovingly compiled route notes give you the lowdown about the villages and monuments that you pass and, because you’re not in a group and have no luggage to carry, you can pause whenever you like.
If you are fit or enjoy regular rambles in the countryside, you’ll find a particularly wide choice for your self-guided walking holiday. Indeed, our rambling holidays range from an exploration of the high paths above Italy’s Amalfi Coast, to rambles along Madeira’s flower-lined levadas (water channels). You can also explore beneath the jagged mountains of the Austrian Tyrol, or enjoy magnificent panoramas of lakes and the Julian Alps in Slovenia.
How Inntravel walking holidays are graded
To be sure that our moderate walking holidays (grade 2) are right for you, read our grading system below. It’s worth bearing in mind that you don’t have to walk on non-itinerant days if you don’t want to, and you can build in rest days by adding extra nights at any hotel.
Generally easy walking with few ascents / descents, but perhaps the occasional long day.
Easy-to-moderate walking with some ascents / descents, and occasional longer days.
Moderate walking on varied terrain, with some long days and regular ascents / descents.
Moderate-to-challenging walking on more rugged terrain with significant ascents / descents on most days. Compass skills may be required (check the individual holiday).
Challenging hikes, featuring long days with significant ascent / descent on challenging terrain. Compass skills may be required.
Choice of easier or harder routes, so that you can tailor most days to your requirements.
