Embark on a touring holiday in Portugal, travelling by train from one friendly hotel to the next and exploring fabulous cities along the way. We organise the travel for you, and provide detailed cultural notes – including self-guided city walking trails in Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra.
Positioned at the western edge of Europe, Portugal is perhaps not a place you might easily stumble upon, but it is an incredibly rewarding country to visit on a self-guided journey by rail. This sea-facing land has long been a nation of great seafaring adventurers, who returned from their voyages with great wealth and much-expanded perspectives, leading to the sumptuous palaces, magnificent historical monuments and rich cultural legacy you find in Portugal today.
Holidaying in Portugal & Madeira
Travel between the UK and mainland Portugal is currently restricted. If, however, you would like to plan a holiday – be it a walking, cycling or touring holiday – we are accepting bookings for departures from 1 March 2021 onwards, with the added bonus that prices for our summer holidays remain unchanged from 2020.
If you are looking for a varied, relaxed and fascinating touring holiday, Portugal is certainly a great choice. From the immaculate vineyards that line the steep banks of the River Douro in the north, to Sintra's sumptuous palaces, via several great cities (captivating Lisbon, learned Coimbra and the capital of the Port-wine trade, Porto), there is much to discover.
Travelling from outside the UK?
To give you a good idea of how we can tailor our trips to your individual requirements, take a look at the section of the website specifically devoted to travellers from outside the UK.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer to get the low-down on Inntravel holidays from someone who has first-hand experience, you can email Phil Wise. Based in California, Phil has taken many trips with us over the years, and will be happy to give you general information about travelling to Europe and the overall Inntravel holiday experience from an American perspective.
