Featuring high-quality spa hotels with excellent restaurants in tranquil villages, our snow holidays for 2023/24 in the Dolomites and elsewhere in northern Italy appeal to non-skiers as well as skiers. Admire the spellbinding landscapes while winter walking or cross-country skiing, or take your pick of other activities such as snowshoeing.
You don’t have to like skiing to enjoy the snow, and our winter holidays in Italy reflect that. Our Slow holiday philosophy means that the emphasis is on taking the time to admire your surroundings in a way that suits you. If you’re looking for a cross-country skiing holiday in the Dolomites, you’ve come to the right place but, equally, our characterful hotels in unspoiled villages on the quiet side of the mountains cater very well for those looking for a non-skiing holiday in Italy.
The best places for an away-from-it-all snow holiday in Italy in 2023/24
For cross-country skiing in Italy, the Drei Zinnen (‘Three Peaks’) region in the Dolomites is hard to beat. There’s a special magic to a winter holiday in the Dolomites, and cross-country skiing here, with Italy’s most romantic peaks providing the backdrop, is a real joy. If you are looking for a non-skiing winter holiday in Italy, head to the Ahrntal Valley, where there are miles of winter walking paths to explore, plus snowshoeing, tobogganing and ice-skating.

Cross-country skiing in the Dolomites for all levels
Another reason for choosing the Drei Zinnen region for your cross-country skiing holiday in Italy is that its network incorporates 200 kilometres of trails and caters very well for all levels (see our definitions below), including complete beginners, who can book lessons at the local ski school.
No previous experience; requires lessons. Should stick to green trails for cross-country skiing or nursery slopes for downhill skiing.
Has skied before and technique is now sufficiently honed to tackle red routes with confidence.
Highly experienced. Able to cope with the most difficult of trails/pistes (those graded black).
