This Holiday in a nutshell
  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel walking, luggage transported
  • journey along the coast of art and light, from France into Spain
  • full of artistic intrigue – from Matisse to Dalí
  • colourful fishing villages

Bathed in warm Mediterranean sunshine, the eastern Pyrenees meet the sea amid a softened landscape of vine-planted slopes and sheltered coves, where this classic coastal walk, from southern France’s Côte Vermeille to the dramatic and unspoiled Costa Brava in northern Spain, reveals a poetic palette of colour. Reds and golds, accentuated by the morning light, are broken by the coastal pines’ vibrant greens and a shimmering, turquoise sea.

As the sunset stains the sea the colours of a paint box, Cadaqués has the magic of a place where dreams really could come true.
The Telegraph

This is what brought Matisse to Collioure, prompting him to break convention and place colour at the heart of his painting; just as the twisted, wind-sculpted forms of the Cap de Creus farther south – and the light-filled Spanish port of Cadaqués – provided inspiration for the Surrealist talents of Salvador Dalí. As you wind gently through these changing landscapes, you experience changes of pace, culture and language; and along the way there are wines to be tasted, tapas to be sampled and seas to be swum in.
