Heights of Austria

The heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park

This Holiday in a nutshell
  • single-centre walking holiday
  • challenging routes through breathtaking mountain scenery
  • outstanding hotel in charming village
  • free use of mountain transport
  • a well-waymarked walker's paradise

In the shadow of the Grossglockner (the highest mountain in Austria) and on the edge of Austria’s Hohe Tauern National Park, stands the pretty mountain village of Kaprun. The dramatic ridges that shelter it, exemplify all that is glorious about walking in the High Alps of Salzburgerland. Ascend to the glaciers of the Hohe Tauern which characterise the dramatic terrain south of Zell am See. Head higher still towards the Kaprun Reservoirs to experience the solitude and remoteness of these stunningly beautiful mountains.

This is wonderful walking country with some spectacular views across forested mountain slopes, crystal clear lakes and south to the mighty Grossglockner.

With well-waymarked trails and easy access to higher paths via gondola and cable car (all transport is included with your guest card in Kaprun), the myriad splendid walking options from the door reward with breathtaking views over the magnificent surrounding landscapes. Your base is the superb Hotel Kaprunerhof which provides a warm welcome and delicious local cuisine.
