Expect to cover approximately 10-15km a day, across varied terrain with regular ascents and descents.
The season for this holiday is:
01 May 2025 - 15 October 2025
01 May 2026 - 15 October 2026

Circular walk via Vintgar Gorge: 16.5km*, 5.5hrs; ascent/descent 380m
For your final day we recommend the long but scenic walk to the Vintgar Gorge (for which a small entrance fee is payable), which takes you along the shores of scenic Lake Bled initially then on a gentle country trail and through villages to the gorge. Here, a series of boardwalks and bridges lead you spectacularly downstream along the entire length of the gorge. Ascend a wooded trail to another excellent viewpoint before descending through a string of small villages. Visit panoramic Bled Castle, then descend back to the lakeshore. (*The route is 13.5km from Hotel Triglav and Vila Preseren.)
Linear walk via Radovljica: 11.5km*, 3.5hrs; ascent 195m/descent 170m
Another option for your day here is to wander across the surrounding countryside to reach the delightful town of Radovljica for a spot of lunch and sightseeing, before returning by bus (pay locally). (*The route is 15.5km from Hotel Triglav and 13.5km from Vila Preseren.)
Around Lake Bled
Alternatively, you may well prefer to spend your last day relaxing by the lake and enjoying the memorable setting, perhaps hiring a boat to row across the lake to ring the ‘wishing bell’ on the island!

We chose the Soca Valley, Lake Bled and Julian Alps holiday and had extra nights in Bovec, Bohinj and Bled to give a 14 night holiday. Highlights were the Hotel Dobra Vila (Soca Valley), which is incredibly peaceful with the prettiest breakfasts - both in terms of the serving and the location on a lovely terrace, the lovely turquoise water of the rivers, the number of butterflies we saw on the walks, and sitting outside Vila Preseren (Bled) watching the sun glinting on the lake at breakfast and at dinner.
Our favourite walks were the walk from Bovec to the Fortress of Kluze and the two walks up the gorges from Bohinj - Option A Slap Savica has a great waterfall and the Option B Mostnica Gorge was quite deep in places and had some lovely pools. The Vintgar Gorge (Option A from Bled) was very enjoyable and beautiful to see - the Sum waterfall was less impressive than those in the previous two gorges; it was more the fast flowing river and being deep in the gorge which was most impressive. It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to the Vintgar gorge entrance from Vila Preseren, so we got to the nearby restaurant early for lunch. You have to wait for the slot on your ticket for the barrier to allow you into the gorge. You are given a hard hat to wear, which adds to the fun of it. There are QR codes to listen to some commentary - a bit melodramatic, but worth taking the time for.
The walking is not too challenging but averages about 9 miles each day. Walking boots are the best option, because of tree roots and rocky paths. The only bit that I needed poles for was the climb up by Slap Martulijkov (Option A from Kranjska Gora - 'Sava Dolinka Valley'). Slap is Slovenian for waterfall. As it says in the Inntravel notes, this is rocky, steep and a bit slippery. Somewhat unnervingly, the wooden handrail that forms a barrier to your left is wobbly - do not trust it. On this day, we chose not to go higher but return down to the village once we reached the main trail, mostly because of low cloud that would preclude good views. However, it gave us time to walk back to Kranjska Gora on the opposite side of the river instead of catching the bus. The scree slopes crossed on the walk from Kobarid to Bovec are not exposed or dangerous at all.
As we went in August it was busy around some areas - the Lepena Valley walk (Option B from Bovec) was particularly busy on the riverside paths, and some of the paths to the right of the river were eroded in places and needs maintenance. It is worth noting the bus in July and August that takes you back from where your path meets the road up the valley - it runs all the way back to Bovec for 3 Euros per person (children go free). Perhaps because it was busy, this was not our favourite walk. To chose between Options A and B in Bovec, we preferred Option A - the Kluze fort walk. Note there are benches for a picnic around the area of the fort.
We started the Bovec to Kranjska Gora walk at Lake Fusine, which was beautiful, but again very busy. We had elected to walk clockwise round the lake, but everyone else seemed to be going anti-clockwise - sometimes large parties of people. The path was narrow and had the usual tree roots and rocks in places, so waiting for others to pass meant a very slow start to the walk. It's lovely and worth seeing, but maybe you don't need to go all the way around it (or try going anti-clockwise!). We enjoyed the Zelenici nature reserve on this transfer route.
The final walk to Radovljica from Bled repeated some of the earlier transfer walk, and was a bit meandering. There was a long detour up through Ribno again to see a church with frescos. We had lunch on a bench there. When we did this walk, there were three barriers of big rocks on the road down towards the river to cross it - to prevent cars going down. Two cyclists negotiated it with some difficulty. It looked as if the road will be resurfaced soon, so an alternative route could be selected. Radovljica was interesting though, and we enjoyed the museum about bees and Slovenian bee-keeping. There is a free bus in July and August to take you back to Bled (so you could skip the walk altogether if you wanted to).
We were pleased with our choice to see some of Slovenia and found the local people friendly. Most speak very good English, but we got used to saying Dobra Dan (good day)!
Hotel Dobra Vila was our favourite hotel and would recommend an extra night in Bovec as area was left unexplored. Favourite hike was Koca v Krinici, stunning scenery and good trail. Hotels charge small local taxes per room each night approximately 5 euros
The people were all very friendly and the Dobra Villa was a very special place to stay. We saw a lot of wildlife, red squirrels, fox, deer and a lot of bird life.

We thoroughly reccommend the 11 day holiday for the variety of landscapes walked through. You provide a good mix of varied accommodation, and all included meals were excellent.
We tried as many of the local and other Slovenian wines as we could, which were all very drinkable.
At Martinov Hram in Bovec, and Rozic Penzion in Ribcev Laz we had excellent local meals, reasonably priced.
Slovenia is a hidden gem and I do not think there is a better way to explore it's natural wonders than through walking The Soca Valley and Lakes and Julian Alps. Beginning with Ljublljana is a must, as it is without doubt a beautiful city, no cars allowed in the old city and full of restaurants and atmosphere. From beginning to end, Slovenia was totally relaxing and peaceful, a 'green' paradise with so much to explore, a wonderful surprise if you value the outdoors!
We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and enjoyed everywhere we stayed. Each of the stays had something to recomend it. Kobarid's WW1 history and the waterfall at Slap Kozjak. The Slap Boca waterfall near Bovec. The Zelinci Pools on the day to Kransjska Gora and the views from the balcony walk. Lakes Bohinj and Bled and we really enjoyed our time in Ljubliana.
Quality of hotels mostly excellent - especially Hotel Majerca and Hotel Angel. We thoroughly enjoyed the walks.
Unbelievably beautiful places, and very nice people, who are quite aware they "live in paradise" (that's a quote from them). The tour was very well organized.
This is not a holiday we would recommend to people. We have one more trip with Inntravel over Christmas and hope that this is an improvement in terms the service you offer.
