What is a self-guided holiday?

Walking, rail & cycling holidays at your pace

At Inntravel we specialise in self-guided holidays – holidays that give you the freedom to go at your own pace, the freedom to soak up every moment, and the freedom to make your holiday exactly what you want it to be.

Whether that’s adding stays in places that interest you, starting on the day you would like, eating where you fancy, or starting your walk at the time of day that suits you (some Inntravellers like to be off bright and early, others prefer to linger over a leisurely breakfast…), our experts have done all the research to enhance your experience.

Meanwhile, we take care of the rest: we hand-pick your accommodation, find the best routes, sort your luggage transfers, book your train travel and flights (if requested), and are there if you need us while you’re away.

All you need to do is bring your boots, your route notes, and sense of adventure.

Why go self-guided?

You choose – your own dates, if you’d like extra nights at a place that interests you, if you’d like to extend your holiday, or even combine two itineraries. You decide what works best for you.

Go at your pace – stop for coffee and lunch when and where you decide, pause to take in the views or to spot griffon vultures gliding in the distance. You're not bound by a group or hurried along.

Holidays for you – we can work with you to create your ideal holiday, upgrading your room or even your hotel.

Peace of mind – access to 24/7 support while you’re away. We are regularly recognised for our relentless customer dedication as a Which? Recommended Provider for self-guided tours and Feefo’s Platinum Trusted Service Award.
Who are self-guided holidays suited for?

From solo travellers to couples, friends, family, and smaller groups, our self-guided holidays are suited for all.

We work with small, independent hotels and guesthouses, which can at times limit the number of people a holiday can take for one group, but our travel experts will be able to advise.

The key is choosing the walking level that’s right for you – whether that’s easy walks or more challenging hikes – to make the most of your time away.

Travel Expert, Rebecca, on the benefits of going self-guided

left-quote.pngAre there opportunities to customise trips?
Yes, absolutely! We design set itineraries based on our knowledge of the best way to explore, but you can really make the holidays your own. The vast majority can be started on any day of the week, and you choose how to reach them – many Inntravel customers are now taking the train instead of flying.

We’ve done a lot of work recently to extend the seasons – to give you the opportunity to travel outside peak months, and we offer a whole host of room and hotel upgrades, as well as extra night and holiday extension options.

What’s the best thing about exploring this way?
It’s the ability to discover somewhere amazing on your own terms, but with the support of an expert. We do the research, the organisation, and build so much choice into our itineraries – so you can have exactly the holiday you want.
