2026 hotspots

With almost 300 holidays to choose from, we know it can be difficult to decide between our trips. So we’ve rounded up the ten Inntravel destinations with the best claim on your attention for 2026 – perhaps they’re celebrating a special anniversary, a new award, or they may be offering front-row seats to a rare and unmissable natural phenomenon…
  • When we talk about Mallorca at Inntravel, we usually focus on the things you can see – the craggy limestone peaks, striking coastline, and pretty villages with their cobbled streets and honey-coloured houses. However, we have our eyes trained on Mallorca for a different reason entirely in 2026 – it’s earmarked as one of the best locations to witness August’s total solar eclipse. Why not combine celestial gazing with superb hiking in the island’s timeless north-western corner?
  • You’re sure to have heard of Oktoberfest, but how about another of Munich’s key celebrations, Frühlingsfest? Held between April and May each year – and hitting its 60th birthday in 2026 – this lesser-known event gives visitors a fantastic, uncrowded insight into Bavaria’s traditions and culture. Choose our Munich and Füssen short break to take in a second Bavarian highlight, the spectacular Neuschwanstein Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as of July 2025.
  • Who wouldn’t want all the beauty of Tuscany – without its crowds? This is what you’ll find in the unspoiled Italian region of Umbria, which – if you can – we highly recommend visiting in 2026. That way, your trip will coincide with the 800th anniversary of the passing of Umbria’s most famous son, St Francis of Assisi. Explore his incredible and enduring legacy on our hotel-to-hotel walking holiday across the region – a route that now culminates in Assisi itself.
  • On your marks, get set, go, go, go to Catalonia! Next year, the Tour de France will stage its Grand Départ in Barcelona – bringing a renewed buzz to both the city and wider region. And don’t worry if you can’t catch the riders in July, as there will be celebrations throughout 2026 to mark the centenary of the death of Antonio Gaudí. This visionary architect was the creative genius behind many Barcelona icons, including the Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell.

  • What are Europe’s best food destinations? Tuscany, perhaps, the Basque Country, and who could forget Provence? A name you might not expect to find on this hallowed list is Gozo, but it’s official – this tiny Maltese island has been declared a European Region of Gastronomy 2026. Owing the award to its rich gastronomic heritage and exceptional local produce, Gozo is a gem of a destination in many ways – explore it at leisure on our single-centre break.
  • This one is personal… At Inntravel, we love introducing you to Europe’s least-known corners, and in 2026 we will celebrate 25 years of exploring Italy’s ‘secret’ Apennines. Stretching from Liguria to Umbria, these rugged mountains form the country’s spine and offer some of its best walking. In such a quiet, untouristy area, the welcome is genuine and warm – and the cuisine hearty and delicious.
  • Another Inntravel holiday reaching a milestone anniversary in 2026 is our walk through Germany’s Black Forest. First enjoyed by Inntravellers back in 2016, this ever-popular route is prized for its fairy-tale scenery, its superb choice of trails, and for cuisine that’s unmatched practically anywhere else in the country. Still not convinced? Our itinerary features three family-run hotels hand-picked for their wonderful welcome, as well as the opportunity to explore the exquisite town of Freiburg.

  • Our next destination has made this list due to its ties with murder mystery queen, Agatha Christie. 2026 will be the 50th anniversary of Christie’s death – a fitting moment to discover some of her richest sources of inspiration. Choose our hotel-to-hotel route across South Devon to combine the panoramic trails of the South West Coast Path with visits to Burgh Island, where Christie wrote multiple bestsellers, and to Greenway – the holiday home she once described as “the loveliest place in the world”.
  • No party is complete without a great playlist, but we’re sure that won’t be a problem for the celebrations due to take place in Salzburg this January. Commemorating the 270th anniversary of the birth of Mozart – who was born and raised in the city – the festival will feature a wide variety of events, from operas to themed film screenings. Our rail journey across Austria includes two nights here – plenty of time to also take in Mozart’s childhood home, now a museum.

  • When the Olympics come to town, they always bring new investment, services, and spectacle. Next February will see Cortina in the Italian Dolomites co-host the Winter Olympics, shining a light on both the region’s immense natural beauty and its superb range of winter activities. You can experience these for yourself – away from the bustle of the Olympics – on our winter walking holiday in Moso, a tranquil village nestled in the Dolomites’ Fischlein Valley.
