Travel has the power to create lasting, positive change – for people, places and nature.
That’s why we’re actively involved with DERTOUR Foundation UK, a registered charity created by our parent company, DERTOUR Group.
The Foundation provides funding and works with trusted partners on education, equality and nature conservation initiatives worldwide, ensuring tourism benefits local communities and their surroundings long after your holiday ends.
When you donate to the DERTOUR Foundation UK, your contribution goes directly to initiatives that make a measurable difference.
Projects
The DERTOUR Foundation was set up by our parent company in 2015 and has supported 97 projects in 28 countries across five continents.
All the projects we support have either a people, conservation or animal welfare focus. But it’s more than just choosing a worthy cause, it’s about supporting projects that empower local communities to help themselves.
Replanting Sri Lankan mangroves to fight climate change
Protecting endangered sea turtles on Turkiye's tourist beaches
Turkiye's Mediterranean coast is a nesting ground for endangered loggerhead and green sea turtles, as well as a mecca for tourists who can unwittingly disturb the egg-laying and hatching process with noise, lights, parasols and foot traffic. The DEKAFOK organisation monitors and protects turtle eggs and hatchlings on Titreyengol Beach, where up to 400,000 tourists descend during peak summer nesting season.
The DERTOUR Foundation has supported this project since 2023 and also fitted eight hatchlings with satellite trackers to collect data on feeding and migration patterns.
Connecting people and reefs in the Maldives
The Maldives' coral reefs face increasing pressure from climate change and local stressors. Working with the Oceancy and Diamonds Athuruga Resort, the Foundation helps train local youth in reef restoration and environmental care.
The programme combines education, practical restoration work and scholarships, enabling local communities to protect these vital marine ecosytems.
Replanting Sri Lankan mangroves to fight climate change
Healthy mangroves are crucial to Sri Lanka's delicate coastal ecosystem. The Wildlife and Ocean Resource Conservation (WORC) team is committed to restoring mangroves that have been damaged by human activity and mobilises local communities to replant trees in mud-filled bottomless barrels along the shoreline.
With funding from the DERTOUR Foundation, WORC has replanted 15,000 mangrove trees in Koggala Lagoon, offsetting 6,000 tonnes of CO2, providing local jobs and restoring the eco-system's natural balance. WORC also offers eco-tourism experiences such as boat trips in non-motorised catamarans.
DERTOUR Foundation UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (no. 1212736) registered by the Charities Commission in England and Wales.
