Meet Emma Lavelle

Emma Lavelle is a passionate traveller and content creator, known for capturing the world through the lens of her camera. Her love for immersive, crowd-free travel experiences caught the attention of Inntravel, leading to an exciting partnership.

Much like us at Inntravel, Emma is drawn to the beauty of relaxed, meaningful travel, away from the tourist hotspots. We recently sat down with Emma to hear why she loves working with Inntravel and what makes our approach to travel so special to her.

Tell us how why you chose to work with Inntravel?

I’ve always wanted to try out a walking holiday, but it perhaps wasn’t something I would have had time to organise myself. When Inntravel got in touch to discuss the possibility of me photographing a couple of your walking holidays, I leapt at the chance!

Where have you travelled with Inntravel?

I’ve been on two Inntravel trips now. The first was a three-day trip focusing on the edge of the Scottish Highlands & Cairngorms National Park, walking around Pitlochry and Blair Atholl. The second was a shorter version of the Along the Catalan Coast holiday, where I followed the Camí de Ronda from S’Agaro to Aiguablava.

What has been your most memorable experiences whilst working with Inntravel?

I loved both of the walking holidays I experienced, but my favourite memory has got to be swimming in all the beautiful little coves with crystal clear water along the Camí de Ronda. It was the perfect way to combine my loves of walking and swimming, and those tiny picturesque coves were a dream to photograph!

What makes an Inntravel holiday unique to any other holidays you may have been on?

I like to move around when I’m travelling, which has involved lots of train journeys and road trips in the past. One thing I loved about Inntravel holidays was that you’re completely free to take things at your own pace, stopping to linger whenever you feel like it or taking a detour whenever you see fit. Many of the paths I took led me to places that were only accessible by foot, which you would miss out on if you were travelling by any other means.

Inntravel provide route notes for travellers – how did you find these?

I’ve got a pretty good sense of direction and could find my way using a map, but it was definitely extremely helpful to have Inntravel’s notes to guide me. Not only do they clearly define your route, so it’s impossible to get lost, but they are also incredibly detailed and help piece together the stories of the places you pass by. I like to know the names of all the tiny villages I walk through, any interesting historical or ecological information, and anything intriguing that I should keep my eye out for whilst walking – the notes provided all of this.

What advice would you give to people who are considering a trip with Inntravel, and what can they expect from the experience?

Definitely go for it! I think there’s a common misconception that walking holidays are something you do when you retire, but this isn’t the case at all. I’m 39, and will definitely be planning more walking holidays going forward. If you enjoy walking, love being out in the fresh air, and like to adopt a slower pace to your travels, this is definitely the trip for you. My advice would be to carefully consider the level of walk you would like to embark on prior to booking your trip. Inntravel grade their holidays from gentle to challenging.

Our Catalan coast trip was a Grade 1 walk, which was pretty easy apart from a couple of steep climbs and scrambles on one day (there were notes for how to avoid this stretch if you wished) while the Scottish Highlands trip was a Grade 2, as this involved a steep climb up a mountain on the first day. Be realistic about what you can achieve, plan accordingly (especially if you’re climbing a mountain – consider what you need to wear and carry with you), and do a bit of training beforehand if you aren’t used to long walks.

Where would you love to go to in 2025 with Inntravel?

I have a list as long as your arm! Slovenia and Norway are at the top of my list, though. The Soča Valley, Lake Bled & Julian Alps and Lakes Bled, Bohinj & the Julian Alps trips both look right up my street with a nice mix of mountains, lakes, woodland, meadows and rivers. Further north, I’d love to explore more of Norway. All of the Norwegian walking holidays look incredible, but the Lofoten Islands are high on my travel wishlist so A Journey to Å would be my pick. I’d also love to explore more of Italy, France and Switzerland on foot – especially the mountains.
