Competition 2018 - upload your text, images or video

Lake Constance, Germany

“A Slow Moment is something you discover when you take your time to immerse yourself in your surroundings, look a little closer and linger a little longer.”

For our 2018 competition (now closed) we invited entrants to send in their own Slow Moment, encapsulated in a photo, a short piece of prose, or a video. It could have been a view, an encounter, an aspect of nature or architecture – anything that caught their attention while out exploring (either at home or on holiday) and made them stop to take a better look.

Each month, from May through to October, we selected a ‘Moment of the Month’ which received a fabulous prize from one of our favourite local producers. The overall winner will be chosen by Carl Honor√©, author of the international best-seller In Praise of Slow, and announced in January 2019 at an exhibition of all monthly finalists and other highly commended entries at Joe Cornish Gallery, Northallerton, Yorkshire.

The lucky winner and their travelling companion will enjoy a 6-night, hotel-to-hotel walking holiday around Germany’s Lake Constance*, one of Europe’s largest and most scenic lakes. While away, they will be asked to use their talents to complete a short written or photographic assignment for us.

Clouds of blossom, exotic plants and shimmering waters lend a quasi-Mediterranean feel to the south-facing shores of this magnificent mountain-framed lake. Little wonder it is dubbed Germany’s Riviera.

Despite its proximity to the heart of the Alps, Lake Constance is the ultimate flexible walking destination. The excellent local transport network means that travelling around the lake is a breeze, giving you plenty of time to discover the area’s fascinating natural and cultural treasures – the famous ‘flower island’ of Mainau, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Unteruhldingen and the medieval university town of Konstanz.
