Extend your stay
For a complete contrast, why not add on a stay in vibrant Oslo?

To introduce you to Nordic winter pastimes, Karola and André organise several activities for their guests over the course of the week, all of which are included in the holiday. There is also plenty of free time to devote to your favourite activity, while appreciating the beauty of this Norwegian wilderness.

Cross-country skiing

As you would expect in the country in which cross-country skiing originated, you’ll be given an introductory lesson in this most satisfying of winter sports. It doesn’t take long to master the graceful stride, so one lesson should be sufficient to give you the confidence to head out independently, should you wish to, along some of the trails that lead direct from the hotel door through the forest, alongside the River Sjoa and up on the fells. (There’s no extra charge for borrowing the hotel’s cross-country skis.)

Snowshoeing

You also have the chance to go exploring on two gentle guided snowshoe excursions. The first heads out into the pine and birch forests of a nature reserve where you can warm yourselves round a campfire before heading back – always with an eye open for spotting elk through trees; while the second is an evening walk out into the wilderness to gaze at the heavens and spot stars and galaxies – and hopefully the Northern Lights, too – in the inky black skies.

Winter walking and ice canyoning, Inntravel style

The highlight of the week is likely to be the guided walk through the River Sjoa’s canyon. Ice canyoning is popular among extreme-sports enthusiasts, but there’s nothing extreme about this excursion. As you head on foot through the canyon, you’ll pass huge icicles, detour behind frozen waterfalls and enter ice ‘caves’ to see winter at its most splendid.
