The Bernese Oberland is justly famed as the most dramatic region of Switzerland, but the romantic names of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Schilthorn are but part of the story. The Oberland also possesses rolling green hills, flower-filled meadows, shady forests and villages tucked away in the quiet, sheltered valleys, where you will find a special serenity.
Following well-established paths recognised for their outstanding vistas, the route is among the most challenging in our selection, with demanding ascents and descents each day, though the magnificent panoramas from the high passes also make it one of our most rewarding walks.

"For me, there is nothing like the scenery in the Swiss Alps. No two days are the same - even on the same route - as the weather is such an important factor. While clear blue skies and long uninterrupted views are great, moody skies add their own drama." - Rebecca Bruce, Travel Expert |
Above the fast-flowing River Inn perch historic villages whose cobbled streets are lined with sturdy stone houses. Decorated with intricate pastel murals, the walls of these centuries-old houses would doubtless have many stories to tell.
Visitors continue to be astonished by the silent splendour of these ancient villages, characterised by their sturdy stone-built houses with deeply-recessed windows, arched doorways and intricately painted façades.
Switzerland’s only national park is just along the valley, sheltering chamois, ibex and marmots, as well as golden eagles, bearded vultures, wolves and lynx.
