This Holiday in a nutshell
  • twin-centre holiday combining guided walking and a stay in Marrakesh
  • exceptional hospitality off the beaten track
  • enjoy three walks with your own personal guide
  • help prepare dinner one afternoon
  • half-day city tour included

Just over an hour’s drive east of Marrakesh, through increasingly bucolic scenery towards the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains, lies the Maison d’Hôtes Tizouit – very much off the tourist trail and perfectly in tune with our philosophy of travelling slowly. Arriving here is like travelling back in time into the very heart of an impressionist painting – clear skies and the rich colours of the landscape merging into one harmonious background of blues, oranges, yellows and greens, given an extra boost in the spring when flowers carpet the land and the delicate scent of herbs and spices fills the warm air.

I woke with the sunrise, and the muezzin call to prayer echoing through terraced fields of scorched and brittle wheat. My guide Houcine Hilali – a local Berber whose eyes sparkled when he talked of his people – and I climbed through the shade of an olive grove into a field of almond trees.

Just as Demnate, the nearest town, offers a more laidback atmosphere than its boisterous neighbour, Marrakesh – whose kaleidoscopic whirl you get to experience at the start of your holiday – so the Maison d’Hôtes Tizouit exudes an air of serenity, inviting you to unwind. Indeed, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from this secluded setting and the genuine hospitality of your hosts. But that would be a shame, as the surrounding area offers fascinating walks through idyllic landscapes, where smiling people greet you as you explore traditional villages and green river valleys that hide awe-inspiring natural wonders.

You are accompanied by English-speaking local guides for much of your holiday, ensuring your time in Morocco becomes an unforgettable holiday of a lifetime.
