If you've experienced this holiday first hand, why not write a review?
We are keen for as many customers as possible to review their holiday. To make it easier to do so, we include a specific review section on our post-holiday questionnaire, and this is what we publish here, unedited. Read our full review policy >
We had a very good trip. Rail travel is the way to go and Slovenia a wonderful destination for walkers. The Inntravel arrangements worked very well.
We loved Slovenia. it is a stunningly beautiful country with pristine landscape, clear blue waters, incredibly friendly people and delicious food. Our big disappointment was InnTravel's contribution;
confusing notes
dull walking routes that had clearly not been tested.
Too many of the paths we took were on roads or busy cycle tracks.
The accommodation was basic but very clean and comfortable. The proprietors of the 3 hotels were very friendly and helpful. We realised after a couple of days we were better seeking local advice on walks and other ideas for things to do.
We are sorry that you didn't enjoy our selection of walks. Feedback for our routes on this holiday is usually extremely positive, and returning customers haven't advised that they have had problems following our directions. The routes have all been walked, and the notes written, by members of our experienced route-finding team.
We were bowled over by the beauty of the Soca valley which provided a wonderful walking holiday with surprisingly varied landscapes and walking experiences. The history of the area and the Soca front's pivotal role in WW1 was also a revelation via the historical walk and visits to both museums in Kobarid (including the small museum by St Anton). Everything was very well organised, the walking notes accurate and interesting variety of walks. The stand out accommodation was the Dobra Villa, although there was an initial problem with a double rather than twin beds. However they acknowledged their mistake and set up an additional bed. When we checked out they did not charge us for our drinks and coffee at breakfast which was welcome. Our main disappointment was the so called tasting dinner at Hotel restaurant Mangart. This was in a nondescript hotel restaurant, the food was bland and stodgy, wine was not offered till we asked for it and it was nowhere near the standard of Hotel Hvala. It would have been better to have offered a voucher for the Martinov Hram where we ate the second night or simply not to include meals as Kranjska Gora. Maybe a welcome drink at the Dobra Vila would be sufficient.

The three locations of Kobarid, Bovec and Kranjska Gora provided a wonderful insight into three different locations - the first with its historical significance, the second showcasing a beautiful river full of water sports, and the last a truly alpine setting. Personal highlights were the walk up the river Pisnica, and the Dobra Vila.
A fantastic holiday! Inntravel had everything perfectly organized - smooth sailing from start to finish. The choice of hiking routes was spectacular. Each day brought new vistas, landscapes, trails and expereinces. My husband and I did the holiday becasue our daughter and son-in-law loved it so much. They were right! Tip: It was extremely helpful (and fun) to download the map files (.GPX) sent by Inntravel and then upload them to AllTrails app. Usinfg AllTrails made navigation a snap and it was fun to see miles, elevations, maps, etc. for each day. The staff at Inntravel are very freindly and responsive. A+++
This was our second Inntravel trip but hopefully will not be our last. We found the hotels (especially with the upgrade options), meals and walking notes to be excellent. Dobra Villa was an especially lovely hotel, with the beautiful balcony view and breakfast on the patio. The food, wine, and service at the restaurant at Hotel Hvala were also top notch. We are happy that we chose to take advantage of the offered transfers to shorten the walk from Kobarid to Bovec and to visit Lake Fusine. We were grateful to enjoy beautiful weather in early July. We felt fortunate to avoid any rainy walks. We benefited from the review by Rebecca (August 2021) and second many of her recommendations--Lepena Valley walk, Restaurant Pristava Lepena, Restaurant Lipa in Kranjska Gora. We found the bus system very accessible and took advantage of the seasonal shuttles to access trails around Bovec as well as to visit Bled from Kranjska Gora. We also took a bus from KG to Ljubljana at the end of our trip—it wasn’t particularly fast, but it was quite affordable and there were hourly departures each day.
The Soca valley trip was just incredible in every way and we would highly recommend it - we just had a superb holiday experience. Scenery was amazing and the routes were fantastic. So many highlights and too many to mention. All we would say is go to Slovenia and the Soca valley, follow the routes and you will not be disappointed. One small issue re the directions .. in Bovec when you start from the travel info centre TIC for whatever route you're taking after leaving the centre and turning right - then do the opposite of what they say ie if they say R do a L and vice Versa! Other than that the directions are superb
You need to improve your planning and be far more organised. And essential that you actually respond to emails. Max 24 hours. Being nice and polite on the phone is not enough.
An enjoyable walking holiday in a less well-known known part of Europe. Hotels comfortable, food good, local residents invariably helpful and knowledgeable.
Thank you Inntravel for another 2 memorable walking holidays and 2 city stays. Yet again the choice of hotels was excellent, transfers easy and the choice of walking routes great. We love the combination of track notes, hard copy map and GPX files. We had to change some of the walks because of the weather, but with suggestions from hotel staff, and the information we had, it was easy. Our only regret is that we didn't have any 'down' days - our legs were tired at the end of our second walking holiday!
INNTRAVEL NOTE - these customers combined our Through the Soca Valley and The Secret Apennines holidays.
I would suggest that clients always check locally if they can that the suggested walking routes are accessible - Inntravel are unlikely to be able to update walking notes frequently enought to reflect any local access issues due to landslides etc. The information and walking notes provided by Inntravel were excellent and provided us with everything we needed for route-finding, and all the travel and baggage transfers worked perfectly.
This was a wonderful walking holiday for myself and my 2 adult children - a rare treat. Our 8-day trip included a variety of walking experiences - along the stunning Soca river, through beautiful alpine scenery, lovely forests and spectacular mountains. Although chillier in Kransjka Gora where we spent 4 nights, the sun shone for the whole week and we enjoyed a number of cold swims in the rivers and Lake Jasna. One day we hired e-bikes and cycled to Lake Bled. We found the history of the area very interesting and I was moved by our visit to the Russian Chapel in the forest on the mountain road. Hotels and transfers were all excellent. Altogether faultless organization by Inntravel. Thank you!
This was our second holiday with Inntravel and we will definitely be booking more. We love the way the holidays are organised with all the necessary information supplied and the feeling of a personal service thru' out.
A lovely holiday with wonderful hotels and certainly worth an upgrade to Dobra Vila in Bovec with its peaceful garden and very helpful host. In Bovec the Hotel Restaurant Mangart gave us a superb meal which was perhaps the best of the holiday. Hotel Miklic was a great choice and the owner's son,Gregor, was extremely knowledgeable in helping us choose routes for the extra day that we stayed there. It is hard to say what was the highlight of the holiday! We had beautiful weather, fields of autumn crocus, autum cyclamen in the woodlands and all in all a holiday in a lovely country which we look forward to visiting again.
Slovenia is a beautiful country and the colours of the Soca River surpass any other river I have seen in the world. We really enjoyed our time in Kobarid - the historical trail was interesting as well as being quite a challenging walk. Watching people abseiling and canyoning into the Kozjak waterfalls was good too. The weather was really good that day so we enjoyed a dip in the Soca and a lie in the sun on one of the pebble beaches on the banks of the Soca. The included evening meals at the Hotel Hvala were excellent and the service in the restaurant was charming, knowledgeable and faultless.
The walk through the Lapena valley was just magical - a real favourite and the late lunch at the restaurant Pristava Lepena was very good and worth the steep uphill walk. The welcome and service at the Dobra Vila are excellent, as are the breakfast and the setting/gardens. Our room was a little tired and trying to keep the floor from flooding when using the shower was a challenge. However it was worth having a balcony for the gorgeous view. The included dinner at the Hotel Restaurant Mangart was outstanding and we were sadly too full after 5 courses for the cheese course. A shame the dining room at the hotel doesn't match the food.
Kranjska Gora is more built up and touristy than when I went in 2016 but still very gorgeous. The icy blue water in the river, the Lake Jasne and the Russian chapel are all highlights. An evening meal at the Restaurant Lipa was excellent. Other meals at Pri Martinu and Hotel Kotnik not so good. We hired e-bikes in KG on the last day as we had time to kill before our flight and made good use of both directions of the flat cycle path in the valley which was great for us as we are not used to cycling.
