A Journey to Å
“There is just one place to go, whatever the time of year or whatever the weather. Nowhere in the Inntravel portfolio will you ever see such dramatic landscapes and seriously awe-inspiring views as on Norway’s Lofoten Islands. Arriving by sea, you glimpse this dark blur on the horizon, which soon grows into a line of imposing jagged peaks. The excitement grows as you realise you will be soon be exploring these magical and magnificent islands up close. I have been twice. And feel so privileged and lucky to have done so. I would love to go back...”

The High Route
“I don’t need asking twice to visit the Alps, I am a mountain girl! And there is nothing quite like the scenery in the Swiss Alps – when you have it all laid out before you from one of the high passes, it quite simply takes your breath away. No two days here are the same – even on the same route – as the weather is such an important factor in the views you get to enjoy: while clear blue skis and long interrupted views are great, moody, cloudy skies also add to the drama of a vista.”

Where Eagles Soar
“Several years have passed since I had the pleasure of travelling to a hidden corner of Bavaria to create a challenging hotel-to-hotel walking holiday. In Berchtesgadener Land, superb family-run hotels and high-octane hiking are a given. Heart-racing vistas and the tangible traditions of Germany’s southernmost region are a bonus. I must find an excuse to return to this astonishing land of soaring peaks and iconic raptors.”

Hotel Meisser, Guarda
“I’ve never been to the Hotel Meisser in Switzerland’s magical Engadine Valley, but it’s the Inntravel destination I most want to visit. This idyllic hotel features on our summer walking holidays, but it also makes a great base for winter walking – and is a world away from your typical ski resort. As a keen walker, I’d love to try some short snowy hikes, and the Hotel Meisser – with its tranquil setting, excellent choice of nearby trails and highly praised cuisine – sounds like the perfect fit for me!”

Pyrenees to the Atlantic
“Why have I chosen this trip? For its spectacular views, amazing food and friendly and welcoming people. This holiday starts in the mountains and makes its way to the coast. Such a contrast in scenery, and yet it flows perfectly! I also love that the journey takes you across the border: beginning amid French peaks and finishing by the sea in Spain. It is one of our most challenging walking holidays, but very much worth the effort.”

The Northumberland Coast & its Castles
“Northumberland holds immense personal significance for me as I was raised among its rich history, breathtaking natural beauty and local charm. On Inntravel’s walking holiday in the region, leisurely routes lead you to coastal castles, sweeping views and medieval Alnwick – via an excellent selection of hotels and guesthouses. Top this off with friendly locals and classic fish and chips by the sea, and what’s not to love?!”

Hotel Ylläshumina, Ylläs
“A few years ago, in early December, I was lucky enough to travel to Finnish Lapland to sample our winter activity holiday at Hotel Ylläshumina. At this time of year, there are only four hours of daylight and when day does try to break, the colour of the sky is stunning. It’s a dusky and beautiful time to visit. But head here at any point in winter for an unforgettable experience – packed with once-in-a-lifetime activities and the chance to experience the very different way life is lived so far north of the Arctic Circle.”

The Pirate Coast of Lycia
“I very rarely want to visit places more than once, even if I’ve really enjoyed the trip, but I’d make an exception for this holiday along Turkey’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Wild, remote and challenging, it offers a real feeling of being somewhere few others go, despite following sections of an official long-distance trail. The ancient history all along the route is incredible, the locals are remarkably friendly and finishing in the seaside hamlet of Simena is special – it can only be accessed by boat or on foot and hasn’t changed since my first visit on a family holiday over 35 years ago!”
James recommends...

Puglia’s Gargano Peninsula
“Oh, this isn’t easy – so many trips to choose from! One that particularly stands out to me takes place in Puglia’s Gargano Peninsula, and offers exactly the kind of experience that you wouldn’t expect from the up-and-coming Italian region of Puglia. I lived here for six months, so I’m completely converted to the Gargano’s unique charms: it is very much off the beaten track, with a striking mix of ancient forest, emerald seas and sacred pilgrim town. The walking is wonderfully varied – through constantly evolving landscapes.”
