Across the Istrian Peninsula

Istria - hill-top towns, vineyards & coast

This Holiday in a nutshell
  • self-guided, hotel-to-hotel walking holiday, luggage transported
  • good-quality accommodation and cuisine
  • follow unexplored countryside paths
  • varied landscapes of vineyards and hill-top towns
  • vineyard visit and tasting included

From the Adriatic Coast, a lush, green landscape of rolling hills slowly gives way to a more mountainous east where the high, rugged peaks of the Učka Mountains drop steeply down into the glistening waters of the Bay of Kvarner. This is a land of secluded valleys and fertile plains dotted with hill-top towns and a spectacular jagged coastline of lagoons and islands, secret coves and long tranquil beaches.
The views down to the sea and over the islands as we descended the mountains grew more spectacular with every step.

On this fascinating walk, you cross the breadth of the Istrian Peninsula, from close to the Adriatic Sea in the west to the beautiful eastern seaboard. As you walk through the rolling fields, woods and neat vineyards of the Mirna Valley, you pass through small hill-top towns and villages where the fascinating history of this area comes alive. Starting near bustling Buje then moving on to medieval Motovun, before continuing over the mountains and down to the sea for a final flourish at Lovran, you experience the authentic and picturesque heart of the Istrian Peninsula.
