This is a very good walking holiday with a pleasant mix of inland trails between medieval villages and then coastal walks. The food along the way was a real highlight, especially Hotel Aiguablava which was excellent in every respect. October was a good time to visit, with cooler temperatures and fewer tourists. We also managed to swim every day in hotel pools or the sea.
The final walk from Aiguablava to Llafranc is more of a Grade 2 than a Grade 1 walk as there are a few steep descents and some scrambling, with some steep drops near the path. An easier alternative would be to take a taxi to Llafranc, then walk along the lovely coastal path to Calella and Golfets, which is very pretty and easy. We did this on our extra day in Llafranc.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday.
This holiday provided the perfect mix of countryside, seaside and city. The Girona add on is a must. Exceptional food throughout but especially La Placa and Es Portal. We would certainly recommend this holiday.
The walks gave us a real insight into the region and its variety.
The holiday was wonderful and Inntravel did an excellent job. The hotels were in beautiful locations, varied, the food was excellent and the walks varied with lots of interesting stopping points to visit stuff and v helpful suggestions on where to have lunch etc. Inntravel was also v helpful and responsive to questions and any requests we had.

Overall an excellent holiday with varied walking terrain. The hotels are varied in style and are comfortable and welcoming. Breakfasts are excellent and dinners offer plentiful and enjoyable food. The walk on the final day has beautiful views, but is considerably more challenging in various ways than previous days. I would consider it a level 2 walk.
An excellent holiday with wonderful medieval villages and towns to explore. The Hotel Aigua Blava was outstanding, with a beautiful balcony for our room, overlooking the cove with the sea lapping on the shore. We added a break in Girona at the end of our Flavours of Catalonia holiday and stayed at the lovely Hotel Historic. Girona was very interesting with its historic streets, fortified walls and the ochre and terracotta town houses by the River Onyar. Altogether, a very enjoyable holiday!
This was an excellent holiday, well up to your usual high standard. The hotels were all good as was the quality of food. We had one poor dish at Hotel La Placa but it was replaced.
Apart from Hotel Arkhe all the Hotels were wonderful. The last day's walk to Llafranc is very rugged and tricky in places. If staying the extra day in Llafranc we would recommend a visit to the Botanical Gardens but suggest you take a taxi to the gardens and walk back to make the most of the gardens.
Flavours of Catalonia was a lovely holiday, our second with Inntravel. We enjoy very much the concept of walking on a self-guided route in areas of a country that we would otherwise not discover. Sadly the weather was mostly not good (although the sun came out for the last couple of days), but the quality of the hotels made up for that. In particular we loved Mas Plaça and Hotel AiguaBlava, and had a memorable ‘gastronomic dinner’ at Hotel Llafranc. The hotels are all in beautiful locations; we really enjoyed the contrast between the countryside with its wild flowers and medieval villages, the coast, where the hotels overlook the sea, and then the ancient city of Girona at the end. And a special delight: we were accompanied for much of one walk by the song of nightingales. A couple of the walks were quite challenging but we enjoyed them all.
As seasoned Inntravellers we had another excellent trip with varied accommodation, copious and wonderful food, and characterful small towns. The weather was unseasonably hot so we did not always complete the full walks, but we enjoyed swimming everywhere to cool off.
Great Hotels, Great Food and Great Countryside.
Take the time to visit Pals and Begur even if it means shortening one of your walking days.
Also don't bother stopping for a daily Lunch, you wont need it, the breakfasts and dinners are massive.
Watch out for the sting in the tail on the last day!
We loved it all and were really glad we added on extra nights at Llafranc as it was a great place to unwind after the walking holiday.
In a word, fabulous! We've done several self-guided, inn-to-inn tours (walking and biking) and this trip was one of the all-time best. Superb communications, accommodations, trail directions and -- oh my -- the food!! Every day on the trail was different, so it was the perfect mix of easy walking and challenging terrain. Each inn had its own ambience and charm, from the rustic farm-house style to the relaxing seaside resort. The food experience was truly impressive! We didn't know what to expect until we sat down at the table and every meal was excellent. If you enjoy walking/hiking, exploring, eating well and immersing yourself in the local culture you will love this trip!!
The organisation of the holiday on the ground was first rate and all the transfers worked smoothly. We had a Barcelona city add-on with three nights at Hotel Colon, which was an excellent base to explore the city with lots of restaurants nearby. All the hotels on the walking holiday provided very comfortable accommodation in attractive locations and three of the hotels provided outstanding cuisine: La Placa, Es Portal and Hotel Terramar. The Es Portal and Hotel Terramar taster menus were especially memorable so make sure you remind the restaurant if you are inadvertently given the day menu! On other nights we did tend to choose from the a la carte as there was more choice than the half board menu and often worked out much the same price. We especially loved the coastal walks and scenery and would recommend the walk to the Cap Roig garden if you are staying an extra night at Llafranc.
The quality of the hotels was excellent. The landscape was much more verdant and beautiful than expected. The routes were on easy tracks with little road walking and beautiful scenery. The pretty stone villages were an unexpected highlight.
We very much enjoyed this walking holiday. It started wonderfully with a warm welcome at our hotel right in the beautifully preserved town of Madremanya. We enjoyed wandering through forest and farmland, exploring medieval villages along the way to finally arrive at the very picturesque coastline. The views from our room and the dining terrace at the Hotel Aguia Blava were exceptional and there were coves with crystal clear water nearby for swimming. We also enjoyed staying very close to the beach in the bit more busy town of Llafranc. All of the travel arrangements by Inntravel worked smoothly and we certainly indulged in some fine dining along the way. We were pleased that all of our hotels were able to cater to our dietary requirements and provide gluten free breads and sweet goods.
Overall an indulgent, enjoyable holiday. We were fortunate to have perfect warm weather for walking, and ground was dry so no problems with fording etc. Our ageing legs struggled a little with the inclines and scrambling on the last walk. We enjoyed the mix of interesting medieval villages inland and the lovely coastline. All hotels were very comfortable, with outstanding cuisine at El Portal.
We really enjoyed this trip, in spite of its occasional hiccups. Wonderful views, great hotels, lovely food, both in the hotels and in the tapas bars. Travellers coming in low season should note that 'open all summer' may not include April! There were no picnics on this trip because of the plentiful bars and restaurants, but walkers really need to get the timings right to take advantage of them, and a few emergency rations might be a sensible precaution.
After a long winter, this was the perfect trip to lift our spirits and encounter spring in early April. The weather was perfect for walking, warm and sunny but in the afternoon you needed to protect yourself from the Tramontane which blew from the still snowy Pyrénées . We enjoyed the gentle walks on ancient roads through woods, on tracks through fields of Canola (Colza) in bloom and wheat fields laced with poppies, on dirt roads through shallow valleys with views on the surrounding mountains and in the background always the snowy Pyrenees. Medieval villages which we saw from far and later visited added to the cultural interest and peaceful atmosphere. The final walks near the seaside were our favorites with more challenging footpath and splendid views of the coast. The hotels were all exceptional, but different in style and feeling. All had welcoming, friendly, attentive and professional staff. The included meals (in our case Half-board) were delicious and plentiful. The gastronomic menu offered at Es Portal will stay in our memory for ever, it was really something out of the ordinary.
Highlights:
The feeling of sharing a home and the wonderful mussels and local wine in our first hotel.
Swimming pools to cool off at the end of the day.
On day one we walked though an Agro Botanic Vivers Planas tree plantation which was really interesting.
I found that holiday gave me a insight into a part of Spain I didnt know, the Empordia, it is charming and better than the coast which we were familiar with. Walks and notes were excellent and comments of places we could eat along the way useful, but not necessary as we looked forward to our evening meal too much.
Do not hesitate to book this fantastic walking holiday. The routes, countryside, villages and unspoilt coast were wonderful. The hotels and meals were outstanding!
This was a lovely walking holiday and we were pleased to have walked at this time of year as the wild flowers were delightful. Walking through pine forests that were full of wild cistus, rosemary, lavender, honeysuckle and penstemon was memorable. The walks weren't too demanding, with plenty of interesting stopping points and lots of opportunities for a coffee or lunch without compromising the quality of the walking. Each hotel offered very friendly service and delicious food - our favourite stop off was Hotel Aiguiblava but the staff at La Placa made us feel very welcome and we really enjoyed their home produced rose wine!
Overall excellent holiday. We particularly liked the first hotel. Lovely walks, and we would recommend this time of year (end of April) for all the fantastic wild flowers everywhere.
