We are keen for as many customers as possible to review their holiday. To make it easier to do so, we include a specific review section on our post-holiday questionnaire, and this is what we publish here, unedited. Read our full review policy >
Personal highlights include the Botanical Gardens at Calella which are really worth a visit, the views from the San Sebastia lighthouse, the natural beauty of the coastline, the Sant Roc and Aigua Blava stand out as great hotels. I wish I had brought my snorkelling gear! I would have liked to have spent a night in Tamariu. Worth downloading the GPX files for backup, though most of the route is easy to follow often with little need to follow the given notes.
Easy walking (although long climb out of Llafranc, and some steep sections downhill on that day), beautiful hotels, gorgeous coastline.
In early October, the temperature was just right for walking, but it's the end of the season - S'Agaro was closing down and the choice of eateries was reduced, and this was similar on the promenade sections to Palamos where there were lots of cafes/shops/bars closed.
The view of the sunrise from our bedroom at the Sant Roc Hotel will be an abiding memory. All the hotels and food were excellent. Walking the badly degraded coast path in high heat is a bit of slog, particularly on the first day, but the views are absolutely worth it. Although it was October, it was a bit hot for walking this year, so make sure you top up with lots of water before you set off - there are very few shops anywhere along the route where you can buy water. None of the hotels objected to you filling your water bottles at breakfast. There is a lot of mention in notes about restaurants for lunch, but after substantial breakfasts and with an evening meal to come who needs a lunch stop! Be warned, many of the establishments mentioned in the notes won't serve you with just drinks. The only patisserie we found was in Llafranc.

The first day's walk is one of the longest but has so many stunning coves, beaches and views along the way. This coastline is particularly beautiful. We found the best hotel to be Hotel Terramar & the most beautiful hotel of all the Hotel Aigua Blava.
We were a group of six seasoned walkers and loved every aspect of this Inntravel trip - impeccable organisation and trip notes and maps, charming hotels with beautiful beaches nearby, very good half board dinners and, of course, truly memorable walking with good variety and reasonable exertion.
We were 2 couples in our 70's, friends for 50+ years, on our first Inntravel trip. It exceeded our expectations. In fact one of us said he thought it was the best vacation he's ever taken! The walking route along the gorgeous Mediterranean coast of Spain was beautiful and varied, with many beaches and coves along the way to stop and swim. We actually ended up saving most of our swim time for after our arrival at the day's end hotel or for our layover days. We spent 2 nights each at Hotel San Roc, Hotel Terramar and Hotel Aigua Blava - the most luxurious of them all. But all the accomodations were great, although as others have noted, Hotel Ancora much more basic. We were blessed with perfect weather (our trip was Sept. 28-Oct. 8 nights, including our 2 night Girona add-on) with temperatures in the mid 70's most days and sunny, clear skies. On arrival day at Hotel S'Agaro we opted to eat dinner at a small, family run place along the beach and had a delicious meal. Day 1's walk from there was the longest and for that reason may be challenging for some, but fairly easy walking. Calella (days 2-3, Hotel San Roc) was bustling with crowded beaches even at season's end. We have given Inntravel feedback that Hotel San Roc has a policy of charging Inntravel customers extra to dine on their lovely terrace, which we paid after being disappointed to be seated in a stuffy indoor dining area the first night. Thank you Inntravel for reimbursing us for this extra charge; we hope the hotel will change this policy. We enjoyed the town of Llafranc a bit more than Calella for the relatively more quiet town and beach and the hotel Terramar was lovely. Day 5 from Llafranc to Aigublava, purported to be perhaps more appropriately Grade 2, was actually my favorite for the variety of coast and forest and ups and downs. And I was glad to have my poles. We stopped for lunch in Tamariu and had a wonderful swim to cool off and break up the day. The restauarnts recommended by Inntravel there were all closed but found plenty to choose from along the waterfront. Hotel Aigua Blava is beautiful. Be sure to make advance reservations to dine on their terrace (no extra charge but apparently they book up). The food was spectacular and plentiful - we thought it was too much food! We loved this trip so much we're already poring over Inntravel's website to find our next adventure.
At times (day 1) the notes seemed hard to follow (and with poorer Spanish maps - don't they do 1/25,000 maps) it was sometimes difficult to work out how far along the route we had come. The arrangements (apart from Mayebus) worked smoothly (as always), your choice of hotels were (again as always) good - some excellent ones on this holiday.
A perfect way to experience the scenery, cuisine and hospitality of this wonderful part of Spain.
A really lovely walk, beautiful seaside resorts, gorgeous weather, and charming accommodation. We have used Inntravel several times and have not been disappointed.
This was a most enjoyable holiday! The easy walking left time for swimming in several of the lovely beaches we came to, making it a different sort of experience from our usual Inntravel holday in the mountains! Between the towns with their highly developed long beaches, the coastline is most attractive.
We really enjoyed every aspect of this walk. The walk from Pallafrugell to Llafranc is very short but it was nice to have this day at the beach. It was lovely to see all the different places and stay in a veriety of hotels. Our favourite hotels although they were all nice were the Sant Roc and the Aigua Blava. We would advise always taking your walking notes each day although the red and white lines found on trees walls etc are a great help.
This was our first coastal walk. The walking was not as exciting as other inland walking holidays we have done, but it was very pleasant & enjoyable & we took the chance to swim in the sea every day which was what we wanted from a coastal walk.
Lovely experience. Will definitely rebook with Inntravel. The 3 star hotel in La Fosca was a bit basic to be honest but very friendly, other hotels superb. No maps and did get lost a couple of times. Instructions for last day need updating as some signs removed and other changes to the route. Generally marvellous.
So many highlights. A beautiful coastline with lovely hotels. Great walking along good paths.
A great walking tour with very nice hotels and good food. We were glad we had an extra night in Llafranc - Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc are close together and charming. We picked up local maps at a Tourist Office that we found helpful to supplement the big Inntravel map. Most of the people in the hotel restaurants are on holiday, and although men's attire at dinner, shorts and t-shirts or short-sleeved shirts, is similar to hiking clothes, women generally wear sundresses or pants with nice tops; we ended up buying a linen blouse in Calella to look dressier.
The walks were ideal for us, in parts challenging, but with good variety, stunning scenery and the tougher days were gave us a sense of satisfaction to complete.
Fabulous holiday with amazing varied hotels. We are very glad we upgraded some rooms to ensure sea view and terrace/veranda to enjoy the amazing scenery. Walking level was just right and as described with different scenery across the week and some great swimming / coffee spots.
Our first, but certainly not our last Inntravel holiday. Information and walking notes provided were brilliant. Already planning our next Inntravel holiday.
The highlights were undoubtedly the numerous little coves along the route and the stunning views from the coastal path.
The La Fosca and Aiguablava resorts had no bars , shops or restaurants other than the hotel this made stocking up with water for the next days walk a bit problematic and we like a bit of a stroll pre or post dinner which wasn't an option at these 2 resorts.
The botanical gardens at Calella were a pleasant surprise and well worth a visit.
We found the whole area quieter than we would have expected in June, it was like the season had not really got fully underway but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing as there was plenty of room on the beaches
The choice of hotels was excellent they were all very good .
This is a highly enjoyable holiday, along fine unspoiled stretches of the Costa Brava, with good hotels. Being able to swim in unspoiled coves en route was very special, as was hearing nightingales behind the beach in the wood at Platja Castell (and on other walks as well).
We would recommend the smart El Far restaurant in Llafranc to eat, and Calau tapas in Calella - get to the latter early, the queues are long! Worth it! We also had an excellent lobster and rice on the terrace at Hotel San Roc. Go a la carte at Aiguablava Hotel to get better fresher food.
Walking poles are a help on Day 5 where some of the path is eroded. There can be jellyfish so goggles are useful to spot them.
The beauty of the Costa Brava was the one thing we loved to see. The visit to Barcelona was not to our expectations. You should find a way to enhance this. I suggest you make suggestions on how to achieve this.
The upgrades on rooms in most hotels which we booked weren't up to standard. Hotel Colon room was too basic. At £310 per night it wasnt worth it.
A wonderful relaxing week. Calella & Sant Roc was a real favourite.
The travel, transfers, hotels, and included meals were as expected and were of high quality. The easy to follow detailed walking and touring instructions were much appreciated and made for a stress free experience. Many of our hotel rooms had fantastic views. The included meals were delicious and added to the overall ease and enjoyment of the trip. Booking the trip was not as efficient as would be expected. While we will definitely travel through Inntravel again, we will request to be paired with a one travel agent next time to help the booking process to be more efficient and accurate.
The coastal scenery with its picturesque coves and beaches was delightful.
We visited the Cap Roig botanical gardens on day 2. We were there for over 2 hours and still had plenty of time to go to El Golfet. I think we wouldn't have had enough time the next day to go to the gardens and do the walk. On the subject of El Golfet, we weren't as impressed by it as you were! It was the only beach which had rubbish in/on it.
This entire trip was a highlight. I can't say enough good things about the whole experience with Inntravel. We felt so well taken care of, with lovely accommodations, food, detailed hike notes, etc. I made a suggestion about the restaurants at the San Sebastian light house, a delightful Japanese style restaurant called Far Nomo. One highlight that really stood out was your suggestion to visit the Botanical Gardens at Cap Roig. We spent hours there. The hotels exceeded our expectations, with each room having a pretty view and terrace. And the hiking routes revealed one more stunning coastal scene after another. Even our one washed out, thunderstormy morning turned into a beautiful day! We are already studying your website to choose our next trip A thousand "thank yous!"
This is a wonderful holiday. Spectacular coastline, wonderful walking, outstanding hotel and absolutley amazing food all along the way. We would really recommend this holiday. For us, Calella was a particular highlight but really there were no low points except that the holiday had to come to a end.
If you do the optional walk around Begur would recommend a taxi from hotel to Begur both ways and then back in time to enjoy the amazing hotel facilities and beach. On the last day the extra 3km to Sa Tuna really worthwhile, a lovely bay and great restaurants. Beetroot Gazpacho with olive oil icec cream and fish tapas - yum.
I was very glad to have my sturdy hiking boots and hiking sticks. If I had been wearing "hiking sandals" I would have been very unhappy. Although the route is spectacular and I was glad to do it, there were some exceptionally difficult sections that were steep, rocky and eroded. Several times I had to get down on my bottom to safely negotiate the section. i Would suggest bringing a nicer set of clothes for the dinners as some of the hotels were fancy (I just felt more comfortable being a bit dressed up). It did rain but never very heavily so a good rain coat was essential but rain pants not necessary. This was my first trip with Inntravel and I absolutely loved it and will be back for more. The hotel and food quality was excellent, views fantastic, beaches so lovely. All the accommodations had nice balconies which really added to the enjoyment.
This section of the Catalan Coast is a wonderful mix of rocky coves and sandy beaches, there are new delights around every corner. We arrived each day in perfect time for a late lunch and the included evening meals were excellent, there was never a need to upgrade to the a la carte, the set menu provided plenty of choice. Well done to all the hotel kitchens.
The walking along the Costa Brava coast was much more beautiful that we expected and is highly recommended. Calella, despite its 1970s reputation, proved to be a lovely and quiet town with excellent facilities. Hotel Aiguablava was one of the best I have ever stayed in, top class service, food and views.
Take some goggles (we did) as the Med waters are full of fishes to watch as you swim. Calella was particularly good for that. We ate and drank at a lot of little bars/restaurants along the way and were well treated and welcomed. Catalans are proud of their culture and language, but we felt welcomed even as we spoke English or Castillian Spanish. A lovely holiday.
We were really impressed with the consistently high quality of the hotels and the service from the staff. The Costa Brava was really special with its beautiful coastline and we were very lucky to coincide with a folk concert by Catalan musicians in the hotel.
This was an enjoyable holiday and the walks were not too strenuous. The route details need updating. The last hotel was the best for food and accom. The food in Llafranc was appalling. All the breakfasts were first class. The room in S'Agaro was very cramped.
We very much enjoyed the walking route, scenery and hotel accommodation and food. We booked quite late and Inntravel were very helpful in making some last minute changes to the usual route for us. We found Inntravel to be one of the most efficient and helpful travel companies we have used.
Although never far from civilisation we were struck by the unspoilt nature of the coast in this area plus the variety of landscapes we walked through and the wonderful smells from the pine trees and shrubs. We enjoyed the amazing views and stunning turquoise seawater (we are used to the very brown Bristol channel!) Dining on the terrace of the Hotel Aiguablava was very memorable. We would recommend walking along the city walls in Girona for a great overview of the old quarter
INNTRAVEL NOTE: This customer did our walking holiday 'Along the Catalan Coast' in combination with our city break in Girona.
This was our first Inntravel holiday and we were not disappointed. Everything was so well organised and we did not encounter any problems as we moved around. The coastline was very beautiful, the weather was lovely and our hotels were of a good standard.
We travelled with friends and all agreed the scenery was stunning and the hotels were lovely. We had fun playing mini golf at La Fosca, Hotel Terramar was beautiful and the staff were so friendly as to Hotel Aigua Blava - wow! We have never stayed anywhere with such amazing views. One thing to be aware of for the 'rest day' at Calella de Palafrugell - the Cork Museum and Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Palafrugell are closed on Mondays. We adapted our route to Llafranc so that we could visit and they were well worth the detour.
When we walked through the small bay of Aiguablava on the way to the final hotel we saw Toc a Mar restaurant, full of people enjoying the view and seafood. We had to return the following day to try it. After a walk back along the coastal path and a play on the beach, we had a delicious bbq fish lunch with chilled white wine, enjoying the April sunshine and beautiful views. Our daughter nearly ate all of the flower pot of ham croquettes, her new favourite food.
The Costa Brava walk is wonderful. The scenery along the Cami Ronda is beautiful, and there are so many places to stop and have lunch along the way. The cuisine is amazing. The hotels are comfortable and it is so nice to have everything organized so that all you have to do is walk to the next hotel, then have a rest and get ready for dinner. We enjoyed ourselves so much and look forward to booking another trip with Inntravel.
This was a fabulous holiday; just right for a break in mid-October. Temperatures were in the mid 20's, skies a little overcast in the mornings but it was sunny most afternoons, with no rain. It was warm enough to enjoy sitting outside to eat and lovely to end the days' walks with a refreshing swim in the sea or hotel pool.
We chose not to include the optional walks on Days 3 and 6. Instead, on Day 3 we had a long leisurely walk around the beautiful Cap Roig gardens followed by a swim at el Golfet beach, while on Day 6, we explored the pretty virtually traffic-free streets and squares of Begur, where the cafes and tapas bars are great places to relax and people watch.
On the entire route there was plenty of time to linger and enjoy bird & butterfly spotting. Bird highlights were Firecrests, Serins, Siskins, Crested & Coal Tits, plus an inquisitive Cormorant that swam with us at el Golfet. Butterflies included Wall, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, plus the more exotic Swallowtail, Two-Tailed Pasha and Crimson Speckled Moth.
The gardens at Cap Roig were delightful, fully deserving a half day visit. The gentle direct walk up the road to the gardens took less than half an hour. On the last day, we followed the directions to/from Begur, spent 3 hours or so in the town (including coffee stop and tapas lunch) and still had plenty of time for a swim at Platja Fondo in the afternoon.
The restaurant El Far by the lighthouse at San Sebastia was a great place to have lunch on the short Day 4. The €25 set lunch included three beautifully cooked and presented courses, a glass of wine, bread & tomatoes, and water. Excellent value in a great clifftop setting.
Our favourite hotel was the Terramar in Calella, which was a substitute on our itinerary. It was very friendly, with excellent food, attentive service and luxurious beach towels.
Overall, many thanks to Inntravel for introducing us to a part of Spain that we previously knew nothing about, which has its own distinct Catalan identity.
The quality of the hotels you recommended was excellent, and the food was of the highest quality. We did find the day 1 walk lenghty but managable, but we were much fitter at the end of the holiday and took the walks very much in our stride (forgive the pun!). We found the walking notes were very clear and we really cannot fault the holiday... it was fantastic throughout!! We are now looking at next year in a different location.
The coastal walks and views were memorable - walking poles were helpful for the few rocky stretches. Delightful lunches en route were also highlights of this holiday. Don't forget the mosquito repellent!
The scenery on this holiday (excluding day 1) is often very pretty but one should be under no illusion about the scale of existing and ongoing development on this coast. Apartment blocks are being built in every possible location and you rarely escape the sound of builders at work for long. Luckliy at the end of October, most apartments and houses are unoccupied but I would not want to be walking this route at busier times.
We had a wonderful holiday. Walking in amazing surroundings with a purpose. Loved the fact that we could stop off at an often deserted cove for a swim along the way.
A lovely holiday. Really enjoyed the Botanical gardens at Palafrugell; they are quite beautiful and well worth a visit. We spent two hours there. Found the long walk along boadwalks rather boring. Beautiful coves and beaches with all the hotels outstanding with service, food and wine to match.
We thoroughly enjoyed walking this coast, which also included some much appreciated interesting inland stretches. The hotels were all of a high standard, we particularly liked the friendliness at Hotel Ancora and would have liked to stay two nights to enjoy the beach at La Fosca. We celebrated my 60th birthday at Hotel Llevant in Llafranc which was a real highlight, the food, ambience and service superb (sadly they are closing and relocating). Hotel San Roc was in a scenic elevated position with very good food and service. The gardens, pool and fantastic Seaview room at Hotel Agua Blava provided the perfect end to the holiday - the sea bass was probably the best ever. Apart from a storm on the first night causing some flooded paths and slippery rocks, we had great weather and swam in the sea many times, do go prepared for mosquitos though! Another Inntravel holiday triumph!
Some of the walks along the coast were truly beautiful, even if a lot were 'man made' terraces. We are glad that the trains worked and provide a realistic alternative to flying in these days when carbon emissions need to be reduced.
Just a good holiday.
This is definitely not a Grade 1 walking holiday, it's much much tougher. But that doesn't take away from how lovely it was. Great hotels, friendly people and varied and challanging walks. The Hotel Aigua Blava was standout amazing. Superb views, wonderful food and a great atmosphere. It was really special.
This Catalan Way trip is amazing. Walking every day and spending nights right on the beautiful Mediterranean felt like heaven. The hotels are lovely and some luxurious. The hotel staff were friendly and most helpful. Special thanks to Eton at the LLevant Hotel. At 82 years old I found some of the trails along the Sea very challenging, but the beauty will remain with me forever. Suggestion, if you take the Barcelona add-on, add a couple of extra days--it is an amazing city.
This is a beautiful coastline, with wonderful, constantly changing views. Swimming in the crystal clear sea was very refreshing and we enjoyed experiencing the different styles and atmospheres of the hotels along the route.
The scenery was outstanding.
Not grade 1 walking on days 1 & 5.
Favourite hotels Sant Roc, worth the upgrade, and Aigua Blava.
The holiday was a bit disappointing because the level of the walks were more challenging than anticiptated. This could have been due to higher than average temperatures for the time of year (Peaking 31 on Monday 12 September) combined with extreme humididty. The first walk put me off the rest of the walks because it was so long and challenging in the heat. Food at the hotels was generally unsatisfactory apart from the second last hotel, Levant. However, the scenery was spectacular and it was good seeing traditional Spain away from the usual tourist spots.
Travelling down by train was amazing as was staying the night in Girona and having time to be able to explore the beautiful city the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday, we stayed 2 nights at 3 of the hotels which we would really recommend it gave us time to really appreciate our hotels and the beautiful scenery and beaches.
Our personal highlights included the variety of the scenery and views on our walks, eating out at tapas bars en route and the quality of the hotels and their offerings.
Really lovely holiday, a perfect blend of walking and relaxing, and lots of sea swimming in the beautiful little coves. Very charming small resorts and comfortable hotels.
We thoroughly enjoyed this holiday - the weather was warmer than anticipated but it meant we could have plenty of swims. It is a beautiful part of the world and everyone was very friendly.
There were stunning views and I particularly enjoyed day 5 despite it being the most challenging day. However, there were some tricky parts to the walk across rocks which I think would be better described as Level 2.
This was our first holiday with Inntravel and definitely won't be our last. We also booked the flights and transfers through Inntravel which all went smoothly. Catalonia is a beautiful and scenic region. The coastline is stunning as is the little coastal resorts we stayed at along the way. The hotels were a high standard with good food included and they were all unique in there own way. The weather was hot the week we stayed there. All went very smoothly. The luggage was transferred with no problems and taxi transfer at beginning and the end was efficient and relaxing. All in all this holiday was very enjoyable and and the high standard of service made us feel very reassured about booking another in the future.
This was a truly magical holiday with stunning walks, delightful coves and really special hotel where the staff were keen to welcome Inntravel clients. The food provided was delicious. It was a wrench to leave this part of the Catalan Coast.
The whole holiday was an absolute treat from start to finish. The walks were safe, varied not as rugged and rocky as expected and the scenery outstanding. Although June was hot the sea breeze made the walking a pleasant temperature. I wore my Sportiva walking trainer which was stable and supportive enough for all the walks my husband wore Merrells (all weather trainer) which were perfectly suitable. The hotels just got better and better. We had a room upgrade in Llevant room 212 which was superb. By the time we got to the Aiguablava we could not believe how wonderful our room was. This is a fabulous hotel for the end of this holiday for rest and relaxation by the pool a taxi into Begur or doing the additional walk to Sa Tuna we added an extra night on here and managed to do all three which we would highly recommend. The Sa Tuna walk was the most challenging of the week and the hottest day but well worth it for the views (Taxi back 30 euros!)
Our most memorable meal was in Gerona we would definitely recommend ZANPANZAR on Cort Reial. Great service and really delicious freashly cooked authentic food.
Thank you Inntravel for another wonderful holiday and memories to last forever.
We were delighted by every aspect of this holiday: by the very well chosen and described walk, with wonderful views and great variety, and by the very high quality of the hotels and meals and the warmth of service. We cannot recommend it highly enough. It is our sixth InnTravel holiday, and all have been a great success. Many thanks!
We have fond memories of many Inntravel walks over the last 15 years but this was our first Grade 1. Most days were easy, although the first walk was quite long and the day out of Llafranc had some short rocky sections. Our main challenge was the heat; every day topped 30/32 degrees, much higher than the average for mid-June. Luckily there was quite a lot of shade in pine forests, a pleasant breeze and lots of opportunities for a dip in the sea.
The hotels were all of a good standard with pleasant rooms and good food. The Hotel Llevant was exceptional; very stylish, superb food and a genuinely welcoming and friendly staff. We wished we had booked an extra night there.
Overall a great week, though we would probably play safer with temperatures and go a little earlier another time.
Thank you so much for a fantastic week on the Catalan coast. We enjoyed every moment of our holiday. It was a wonderful walk with stunning views and the Inntravel arrangements were super efficient. The hotels were all quite different, but all were outstanding and the food was really excellent. We would highly recommend this trip.
Absolutely amazing holiday and a lovely touch from Inntravel, sending a bottle of wine to our room to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, it made it extra special.
Scenery was spectacular, the hotels were all different but great in their own way. The terrace at the Hotel Sant Roc was really chilled out and a lovely place to sit and enjoy a cocktail.
I would recommend booking ahead for a table at the Aiga Blava if you want to sit outside; when we arrived we asked about booking a table and they stated there was no availability on the terrace unless we ate very late; we opted to do that as we wanted to sit outside. They lost our order so we ended up eating very late which was a shame as it was our wedding anniversary. So it would be helpful if you mentioned in the information that people should book ahead for a table outside.
I had a fantastic walk through beautiful countryside, stayed at first-rate hotels with friendly staff, and excellent food. This is my second trip with Inn Travel and I could not be more pleased. I'm already looking forward to a third!
We had the most wonderful holiday, got loads of exercise, stayed at great hand-picked hotels, ate really delicious food and drank good and very reasonably priced wines. We were surprised just how unspoilt and beautiful the coast is. Navigation was easy and although we are not walking fit at the moment, we coped with all of the days fine, despite the heat and humidity. Can't wait to do another Inntravel holiday. The Girona add on was fabulous, beautiful medieval streets and a gastronomic delight, and just the right size for a couple of nights.
This was our first walking holiday andwe were hugely impressed with the quality of accommodation and food and the accuracy of the instructions
As usual a great holiday, all arrangements went smoothly. We had some cloud and thunder but didn't really interfere with the lovely coastal walks. Botanical Gardens near Calell were definitely worth a visit (perhaps take a picnic) and on the short walk day to Hotel Levant, definitely worth going up to lighthouse.
This was a relaxing holiday along a very pretty route. The beaches were glorious and great for swimming. On the Platje de les Torretes we found an excellent little fish restaurant, more like a shack, for lunch. All the hotels were good but the Sant Roc was our favourite. It has a stunning position above the sea, great service and good food. We tried both the menu and the a la Carte. Cap Roig is well worth visiting as is the town of Begur at the end of the walk. A truly wonderful holiday.
Thanks for a great trip. See blog post:
Visiting the Botanic Gardens at Cap Roig is a must. Refreshments there, however, are via vending machine only.
Amazing! Such A lovely trip, great walks, great down time on the beaches. The hotels were all superb with friendly and helpful staff. The walk has stunning views and a great mix of terrain. We had some amazing food, would highly recommend
We really enjoyed this holiday, for which we had waited for 2 years, and we appreciate your bonus for leaving the deposit with you. The quality of the hotels was consistently excellent, as was the food and the lovely, friendly service throughout the walk. Overall, we were again delighted with Inntravel's service. We have been customers of yours for many years now, and keep coming back because we know we will enjoy ourselves. We hope to be able to enjoy a few more!
The coastal scenery is gorgeous: we were constantly delayed by the need to take photos. All the hotels have great locations and are super comfortable. The L'Ancora, less glamorous perhaps than others, has great charm because of friendliness and very generous set menu very well cooked.
Each of the trips that Inntravel has organised for us has been exceptional, and this one stands out as probably the best of the lot. We have been enthusiastically recommending it to all our friends.
We especially enjoyed Calella de Parafrugell and Llafranc. Beautiiful accommodations, excellent food, and magnificent views.
It was a wonderful holiday. There were a few tricky bits of climbing over rocks but the walks were breathtaking. Wonderful time of year the flowers were spectacular. We just loved it all. We booked a meal at the expensive restaurant in S’Agora, good but very expensive not sure we would recommend.
We can wholly recommend this tour 'Along the Catalan Coast'. It was very well organised, with all the logistics of getting us and our bags to the right places at the right time handled without any problems. The hotels were excellent and had obviously been well briefed by Inntravel. The walks were really scenic.
The 'Along the Catalan Coast' holiday was very enjoyable. Doing it in late April/ early May, we found it cool enough to walk comfortably, but warm enough to enjoy frequent swims in the stunningly clear and blue Mediterranean Sea, as well as in several outdoor hotel pools. Sometimes we had a swim mid-walk, when the route led us down to one of the many beautiful sandy coves surrounded by rocky outcrops. The walking was quite hilly sometimes, similar to what I've experienced on some of Inntravel's Grade 2 walks, but there were easier stretches too. On Day 3, we spent hours at the huge botanical gardens at Cap Roig rather than to do a long walk, because there were so many interesting plants to look at. On Day 5, I was happy to have brought walking sticks.
We usually follow a plant-based diet, and sometimes had trouble getting things we wanted to eat, because Catalonian food is generally fish-based. However, this was not the case at breakfasts, where the food was always ample, varied, and fresh, and we always left having eaten enough to power our walks. At the Hotel S'Agaro and the Hotel Llevant, we had delicious vegetarian dinners; in fact, at the Hotel Llevant I had one of the best meals I've ever eaten anywhere.
We stayed in Girona for two nights before doing the coastal walk, and I would highly recommend this Girona City Add-On. Girona is a vibrant little city, and the beautiful Hotel Historic is well-placed to access it. We especially enjoyed the Old Town, and walking along the top of the old city walls. Sometimes we came upon groups of musicians informally performing, and enjoyed this. There are vegan restaurants and ice cream parlours to be found in the Old Town. I can recommend the B-12 Rte Bar Vegano in Independence Square.
We travelled by train rather than plane, and found the direct TGV from Paris to Girona pleasant. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Beautiful area, nice hotels, interesting variety of walks, seamless arrangements by Inntravel in terms of bookings, luggage transfers, etc -- overall a terrific holiday. After two years of pandemic delay we were happy to be walking again!
All of the accommodations were great, and on the whole posher than the other Inntravel holidays I have been on (this is my third). My personal favorite was Llevant -- because of their exceptional hospitality and also the food, which I would give five or six stars if you had that many -- it was really amazing -- and they catered creatively to the vegetarians. They also gave us sea facing rooms, because they had them, and with towels for the beach steps away they had a lovely combination of fine service and a relaxed atmosphere. This and Ancora were more like the Inntravel places I have been before -- smaller family run places. Also exceptional was the room at Sant Roc -- probably the nicest hotel room I have ever stayed in, with views of the sea and the town and huge openable windows, and all very comfortable and fresh. I can imagine staying longer in both of those places, which were in little seaside towns. The first and last hotels were quite nice but more resort-y and impersonal. The Aigua Blava is an interesting cultural experience (not local culture, something else) and I loved the pool and the beach, but the dinners were not very good -- although their breakfast was great. Also there was an awful lot of smoking going on.
The walks were a bit less off the beaten track than the others I have done -- especially the long promenade walk on day one. Like others, I would rate parts of some days (2, 5) a level 2 in terms of up-and-down difficulty but these were also really beautiful walks. I wore running shoes (trainers) most of the days but on these days light hiking boots and even poles/sticks were good to have. The botanical gardens at Cap Roig are large, varied, and beautiful, definitely worth lingering in.
Note to swimmers: we were there in late April/early May and the sea was cold but swimmable (around 15C). I brought wetsuit pants/vest but didn't use them, wasn't worth the carry, swam without. The sea is amazingly clear and splendid and there are beaches all along the way and at most of the hotels. Nice ones at El Golfet (little detour day 2) and Llafranc steps from the hotel, and at the Aigua Blava. I saw some people doing longer distance swimming (beach to beach)-- for real open water swimmers this looks very possible and it would be good to have an orange safety buoy for visibililty since there are also boats. Two of the hotels had very large pools -- the S'Agaro a large round pool and the Aigua Blava a proper pool I estimate was 25m. Cold but open and swimmable too. Later in the season swimming would be even better but walking would have been too hot for us -- air temps were also around our upper limit of 15-20C.
We added on and loved Girona! Just walking around. The Jewish museum, the Arab baths. Good things to eat. We found vegan food for my companions, not otherwise much on offer in Catalonia. Restaurant called B-12 ("the revolution begins in the kitchen") and vegan ice cream shop. Loved the Hotel Historic! Interesting and beautiful stone and wood, super comfortable, good breakfast, welcoming hosts. Great location.
This was a great holiday. The scenery was beautiful and the hotels were special, particulary the location of Hotel San Roc and Hotel Aigua Blava. The walking was very manageable allowing plenty of time for relaxation and time on the beach. The seafood was delicious.
Highlights: Hikes were varied and sights were wonderful. All of the hotels were excellent! Weather in late April/early May was perfect for walking and there were not too many people. Highlights were walk through woods and cultivated fields on second day, botanical gardens, Hotel Llevant delightful, Aigua Blava elegant and what a setting. Begur an interesting city.
We loved this part of the Catalan coast - it was a real treat to see the Costa Brava as it would have been once upon a time. We loved the little coves and the colourful boat houses - in our mind's eye we could imagine several generations of Spanish families having days out on the beach. Friendly people and hotels. We had breakfast outside almost every day and even a swim in the sea - not bad for late October! Don't expect good vegetarian food in this region, but you won't starve if you manage your expectations! Our Barcelona add on was a real treat too. Another great Inntravel holiday. Thank you Inntravel!
This is a charming and delightful walk along a pretty coast. We thoroughly enjoyed strolling along, stopping for a lovely swim and delighting in a light lunch and a glass of Rosé or an ice cold beer at a beach cafe en route to our next destination or at our next destination. There were a couple of steep climbs which I would definitely class as Grade 2, and we were underwhelmed by Begur and the peninsular walk. All the hotels were great - we had a few interesting meals - our best one being the one we went out for on night one!! I am a huge fan of Inntravel who do a marvellous job of finding these lovely private holidays. Thank you.
