To the Top of Spain

Journey to Tenerife's iconic mountain
A 17th-century rural hotel in the heart of town, a boutique spa hotel on the edge of the pine forest and a parador in Teide National Park offer three very diverse bases for your holiday.
[The term 'rural' refers to a class/type of hotel in Spain, rather than to its geographic location.]

Hotel San Miguel (rural hotel), San Miguel

Meal arrangements: breakfast only

Hotel San Miguel
A beautifully restored 17th-century Canarian mansion sequestered in the heart of San Miguel. Some of the rooms are named after their original purpose, so you could find yourself staying in the hen house or the goat shed. A tranquil courtyard garden provides the venue for breakfasts on sunny mornings and has an underground thermal bath constantly heated to 33°C in which to relax. There's also a sauna and rooftop sun terrace, and a characterful lounge with an honesty bar for hot and cold drinks.

Hotel Spa Villalba (4*), Vilaflor

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Hotel Spa Villalba
This is an elegant and stylish spa hotel situated right on the edge of the pine forest, a ten-minute walk above the village of Vilaflor. The basement spa includes a jacuzzi, steam room and Turkish bath (pay locally for treatments), and there is plenty of space to relax elsewhere in the hotel, be it in the delightful gardens, the comfortable lounge with a wood-burning fire, the TV and bridge rooms, or the swimming pool with a retractable glass roof which extends out beneath the pine tree canopy. The hotel’s excellent Vendimia Restaurant serves high-quality meals and the Reverón family's own wine. Bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and elegant, with views over the pine forest to the front or rear of the hotel.

Parador Las Cañadas (3*), Teide National Park

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Parador Las Cañadas
Set at the foot of the remaining crater wall, opposite the Roques de García rock formations and in full view of Mount Teide, it's the setting of the Parador Las Cañadas that makes it so special. Once the day visitors have left and darkness falls in the crater, you can enjoy one of the three clearest night skies on Earth (there's a telescope for guests' use and, on Fridays, a stargazing session). The hotel itself is colonial in style. There's a bar and lounge area with a large log fire which provides an inviting focus on winter evenings, and a large restaurant serving a very high standard of cuisine. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and centrally heated.
