Hidden Italy & Slovenia with Lakes & Julian Alps

West Slovenia - Soča Valley & Lake Bled
This Holiday in a nutshell
  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel walking, luggage transported
  • walk from Italy into Slovenia
  • breathtaking views of the Julian Alps and lakes
  • welcoming hotels and excellent cuisine

Starting in the acclaimed wine-producing area of Fruili in north-eastern Italy and crossing into Slovenia to explore the glorious Soča Valley and the equally beguiling lakes of Bohinj and Bled, this two-week adventure reveals the very best of this part of the Alps.

Walking in such unspoiled countryside was wonderful; while knowing and having the confidence that the accommodation (and often the meals) were organised and of such a high standard, really allowed me to relax and enjoy the daily walks.
Mrs McLay, Australia

Walking over the border via the panoramic peak of Matajur has a special magic, and is just the first of many highlights. Enjoy, too, a walk through a succession of charming hamlets to a mighty fortress, and a route through the Vintgar Gorge, all the while rewarded with views of serene lakes, mesmerising waterfalls, vivid green pastures dotted with traditional hayracks and colourfully painted beehives, and the mighty Julian Alps above. It is with a sense of achievement that you arrive at Lake Bled, in the middle of which floats the tiny island of the same name, almost a national symbol.
