An Inntraveller's view

left-quote.pngWe really enjoyed the Fisherman's Trail. It is mostly very peaceful, the views are stunning and the walks are long enough to be tiring without being overly difficult. Very good hotel selection. Take the upgrade option and stay in Memmo Baleeira, it's wonderful!right-quote.png

FAQs

  • Our walking holidays in the Algarve in Portugal run from January to June, then from September to December. We avoid the hottest months of July and August when walking conditions can be less comfortable.

Spring and autumn are especially rewarding, with mild temperatures, clear skies and vibrant landscapes – from almond blossoms in early spring to soft sunlight on golden cliffs in autumn. Even winter offers gentle sunshine and quiet trails, making it a great time to explore the Algarve's natural beauty without the crowds.
  • Our walking holidays in this region last seven nights, allowing you adequate time to explore and relax without ever feeling rushed off your feet. If you'd like to spend longer on Portugal's shores, you're welcome to add extra nights or extend your trip in two compelling cities: Faro, capital of the Algarve, or Lisbon, the country's crown.

You can also combine a walking holiday here with another of our trips in Portugal or even neighbouring Spain.
  • Our Algarve walking adventures include single base and hotel-to-hotel options, allowing you to get settled or experience more. Each option is tried and tested by our experts, and selected for its blend of unique charm, history and service.

Options include a 19th-century farmhouse close to Lagos, complete with communal gardens, salt-water swimming pool and boules. Hotel Belavista da Luz is just 600 metres from the beach with exceptional sea views and a choice of pools and spas. Several smaller guesthouses offer homemade pastries and sumptuous breakfasts to fuel your days.
  • There's plenty to discover beyond the Algarve. The Douro Valley offers vineyard walks with river views and terraced hillsides, while in the north, Minho combines lush countryside with historic towns like Ponte de Lima. Near the capital of Lisbon, Sintra offers fairy-tale forests and palaces on misty hilltops.

For island adventures, Madeira features dramatic trails through volcanic landscapes, while the Azores boasts crater lakes and geothermal wonders.
