How are walking holidays in the Italian Alps graded?

As you'd expect, walking in the Dolomites and other parts of the Italian Alps offers a range of holidays. Certain routes are suitable for different fitness levels and abilities. Some are more demanding, allowing you to challenge yourself. Others are less intensive.

The most challenging hikes involve several days of trekking. You'll cross more difficult terrain with many climbs and descents. Gentler walking holidays based in Val Gardena help you explore the area's UNESCO-listed peaks in a more relaxed way. You can ride cable cars, gondolas, and funiculars to make the journey easier. To help you choose the holiday that's right for you, we grade them (see the definitions below).
  • These gentle strolls range typically between 5-10km per day and involve few ascents or descents. Go at your own pace, pause at every opportunity, and take it all in.

On selected days, a picnic may be included, allowing you to enjoy a meal while taking in the breathtaking views along your walk. Each trip will clearly state which meals are included on which days.
