Cookies on this website
For those who love the thrill of downhill skiing – or want to try it – we feature some of the quietest pistes in the Alps and northern Europe where, with no lift queues or crowds, you spend more time on the slopes, enjoying relaxed yet exhilarating skiing, and afterwards unwind in charming hotels.
There’s no denying the sheer exhilaration of downhill skiing, which is why many alpine ski resorts get so busy. Inntravel’s downhill skiing holidays in Europe, however, are that little bit different – we seek out unspoiled villages away from the crowds. Their pistes rival those of many of the better-known resorts, yet are pleasantly quiet, with short or non-existent lift queues, making for alpine skiing holidays as they should be – relaxed and carefree.
Downhill skiing holidays on the quiet side of the mountain
For a downhill skiing holiday in Europe away from the crowds, we particularly recommend St-Luc in Switzerland and Geilo in Norway, but numerous other villages in our selection in Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Norway and Finland have excellent domains where you can ski on the quiet side of the mountain.
Travelling from outside the UK?
To give you a good idea of how we can tailor our trips to your individual requirements, take a look at the section of the website specifically devoted to travellers from outside the UK.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer to get the low-down on Inntravel holidays from someone who has first-hand experience, you can email Phil Wise. Based in California, Phil has taken many trips with us over the years, and will be happy to give you general information about travelling to Europe and the overall Inntravel holiday experience from an American perspective.
How our downhill skiing holidays are graded
Whatever your level, from beginner to advanced, in our selection you’ll find an alpine skiing holiday to suit you. Some villages focus on easy, family-friendly skiing, while others cater for more experienced skiers, so we describe who the domains are best suited to:
No previous experience; requires lessons. Should stick to green trails for cross-country skiing or nursery slopes for downhill skiing.
Has limited previous experience and is au fait with the basics, but not yet completely confident. Able to cope with most blue routes.
Has skied before and technique is now sufficiently honed to tackle red routes with confidence.
Highly experienced. Able to cope with the most difficult of trails/pistes (those graded black).
Alpine skiing holidays, Inntravel style
There are three key ingredients in our alpine skiing holidays (and Inntravel holidays in general): charming villages in splendid scenery; hand-picked hotels where you’ll find a warm welcome; and delicious cuisine.
Details you can depend on
We believe a perfect holiday is all in the details. That’s why we place high importance on providing you with up-to-date information – compiled with the help of people on the ground who know the area – including suggested activities and cultural events, practical tips and advice, to help you make the most of your snow holiday.

Holidays work best when tailored to your requirements, so we do all we can to meet your needs. Let us pre-book your equipment hire (as well as lessons), arrange a room upgrade, book flights from an airport near you (or rail travel from London), and perhaps add on a city break, making your snow holiday even more memorable.
