Walking holidays in the Loire,

with time to visit the châteaux
The Loire was once the playground of kings, and their legacy – elegant châteaux and a rich history – mean that walking holidays in the Loire are about more than walking. These being Slow holidays, we encourage you to visit the châteaux that you pass, and perhaps the odd vineyard, too – you’re not part of a group, and have no luggage (we transfer your bags to the next hand-picked hotel), so make the most of it, following our trusted route notes at your own pace.

Is our walking holiday in the Loire right for you?

If you’re looking for a particularly easy walking holiday, the Loire Valley is an excellent choice, as the terrain is generally flat and the distances reasonably short, plus you needn’t walk every day if you prefer not to. To be sure that it is right for you, check our grading system below.
  • Generally easy walking with few ascents / descents, but perhaps the occasional long day.
  • Easy-to-moderate walking with some ascents / descents, and occasional longer days.
  • Moderate walking on varied terrain, with some long days and regular ascents / descents.
  • Moderate-to-challenging walking on more rugged terrain with significant ascents / descents on most days. Compass skills may be required (check the individual holiday).
  • Challenging hikes, featuring long days with significant ascent / descent on challenging terrain. Compass skills may be required.
  • Choice of easier or harder routes, so that you can tailor most days to your requirements.
