Travel as a force for good

Ruth Woodall, 13 May, 2025
We caught up with Ruth Woodall, Inntravel’s Sustainability Lead, on all things B Corp: what it means for us, Inntravellers, the process, and what’s next in this exciting, new chapter.

What it means to be B Corp™

What is B Corp?
B Corp certification recognises companies that meet a high standard of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability as well as continuous improvement.

The B stands for Benefit for all. This is a movement to change our economic system so that it positively impacts all stakeholders - workers, communities, customers, and our planet. You need over 80 points to become B Corp certified, with most businesses averaging 60 points.
What does being a B Corp mean to Inntravel?
We’re proud to be part of a global community of businesses committed to economic system change and to high social and environmental performance. A responsible approach to business; and aiming to create holidays that tread lightly on destinations has been embedded within our approach since Inntravel was established 40 years ago.

B Corp certification acknowledges what we’re already doing, helps us to identify where we can do more and provides a framework for us to build on as our business continues on our journey.
Can you share more about our journey to B Corp?
The process to achieve and maintain B Corp Certification is rigorous. Teams across our business have been closely engaged in the process, from Finance to HR, Facilities, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Sustainability. It involved reviewing our processes and approach across over 200 questions in impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers, as well as a disclosure questionnaire on where and how we operate.

It’s been such a valuable process and will continue to be as we use the B Corp Impact Assessment to shape our approach moving forward.
Has the application process made us change business practices/re-evaluate parts of how we operate?
As would be expected by any company working towards B Corp, we’ve updated our Articles of Association, to include specific commitments to consider the impact of decisions on all stakeholders (including employees, customers, suppliers, the community, and the environment), legally binding us to a mission of creating positive social and environmental impact.

As well as this, going through the B Corp assessment has helped us to put formal processes behind things we were already doing on a more ad-hoc basis, for example, introducing our Environmental Management System and Ethical Marketing Policies and we’ve already started to map out areas that we’ll focus on next for improvement – we’ve found this really helpful.
What’s next?
This the start of an exciting journey! We’re looking forward to being part of a movement of like-minded businesses and really moving the dial on our own responsible business performance.

We'll be re-evaluated in three years' time to ensure we're keeping up with evolving standards and continuing to improve.
