A Journey to Å

Lofoten Islands - scenery unequalled in Europe
Your accommodation is charmingly converted traditional fishermen’s cottages and the views are some of the most amazing you’ll ever see..

Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær

Meal arrangements: breakfast, plus dinner on second night

Svinøya Rorbuer
Dotted around the small island of Svinøya, but within easy walking distance of the centre of Svolvaer, these rorbu (fishermen’s cottages) have either been renovated, or built from new, using local materials and craftsmanship to maintain the simple seaside atmosphere of a traditional rorbu. All of the cabins have a double or twin bedroom, a compact but well-equipped kitchen-cum-lounge, a modern shower room and views over the water – some are even built on stilts out over rocks and water. A three-course dinner featuring delicious fish dishes is included on your second evening in the waterfront restaurant, Børsen Spiseri, housed in an historic building close to the rorbu that dates back to the 1820s.

Statles Rorbusenter, Mortsund

Meal arrangements: breakfast, plus dinner on two nights

Statles Rorbusenter
You will be warmly welcomed by the Statles family to their rorbusenter in the fishing hamlet of Mortsund, set on a tranquil headland stretching south towards small islands. Your accommodation is in a new or converted rorbu, furnished and equipped to a good standard, with twin bedroom(s), shower room and kitchen-cum-lounge. The centre's restaurant offers spectacular views from the first floor west across the Buksnesfjord, and the half-board menu, which is simpler fare then at Svolvær and Reine, is a hot and cold buffet.

Reine Rorbuer, Reine

Meal arrangements: dinner & breakfast

Reine Rorbuer
Set in the historical heart of spectacular Reine, this quaint 'village' of original rorbu sits on the water's edge, inviting exploration. The 1 and 2-bedroom rorbus have been sympathetically converted to a good standard, decorated in simple Scandinavian style, offering a wonderful atmosphere and some lovely views across the water. Beneath the stilted cabins, old fishing boats are still stored. Included each day at the centre's restaurant, 'Gammelbua', is a delicious 3-course dinner featuring local produce – a speciality here is fish caught fresh that day – and a buffet breakfast. The historic building started life around 200 years ago as the Reine general store and now enjoys a growing – and well-deserved – reputation for the quality of its food. Breakfast on the deck, on a fine summer's morning, is not to be forgotten.
