This Holiday in a nutshell
  • historic city centred on the famous leaning tower
  • hotel of character
  • enjoy as an add-on to another Inntravel holiday in Tuscany

Pisa is famous the world over for its incredible leaning tower, but you will discover far more as you wander the city's historic streets. The tower, officially the bell tower of the cathedral, is just one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Piazza del Duomo, also known as the Piazza dei Miracoli ('Square of Miracles') to the north of the old town centre – in addition to the tower and cathedral, you will find the baptistry and the Camposanto (monumental cemetery). The medieval town also includes a hospital and a number of palaces, and is surrounded by high medieval walls.
Perhaps it is a pity that the brilliant Galileo, who was born in Pisa in 1564 and conducted some of his earliest experiments from the top of the tower, did not propose a solution to its lean some centuries ago. Maybe not...
You can explore all this and more from our comfortable hotel not far from the railway station. Pisa is relatively small and therefore easy to walk around on foot, with a good range of restaurants and cafés. It is also a lively student town. Indeed, Pisa would not be Pisa without the university. The students organise shows, cultural events and festivals throughout the year, adding another dimension to this Renaissance gem.
