For a holiday combining culture, gastronomy and glorious scenery, Tuscany is the perfect choice. Enjoy relaxed strolls through sublime landscapes, pay a visit to some of the world’s most highly regarded art galleries, savour a glass of Chianti red, or pedal through tranquil, unspoiled plains alive with history.
Tuscany – a name which immediately conjures up visions of tumbling, velvet green hills; of slowly winding roads edged with tall, slender cypress trees; of isolated, terracotta-roofed farmhouses; and row upon row of vines. The Tuscan countryside is evocative, romantic and timeless – punctuated by beautiful, hill-top towns and some of the world’s most magnificent art cities.
The regional capital, Florence, is perhaps the most impressive of Tuscany’s cities – with a whole host of artistic and architectural highlights, including, of course, the famous Uffizi Gallery and wonderful duomo. Bologna, meanwhile, is the beating heart of Italian gastronomy and learning – you’ll find the world’s oldest university among its elegant streets – whereas Siena is a medieval masterpiece, known for its delightful Campo and world-famous horse race.
Our holidays in Tuscany include explorations of the classic landscapes around San Gimignano; a journey on foot between Bologna and Florence; plus discovery of lesser-known southern Tuscany, peppered with reminders of the mysterious Etruscan civilisation.
