Stragbourg

Strasbourg is a fairytale city where French elegance meets German charm, boasting iconic landmarks and a rich cultural and culinary scene.

The capital of Alsace, formal seat of the European Parliament, and just half an hour by train from Colmar. The city’s sparkling EU quarter provides a fascinating contrast to its UNESCO-listed historic centre – the Grande Île – with its canal-side winstubs (cosy taverns) and wondrous Gothic cathedral.

There are many interesting museums and galleries to explore here, and Strasbourg also boasts an excellent shopping scene and several tempting restaurants.

    Strasbourg Cathedral is the city's crown jewel, a Gothic masterpiece with a 142-metre spire, intricate façade, and stunning stained-glass windows. You can watch the Astronomical Clock in action at 12:30pm and climb 332 steps to the panoramic terrace for sweeping views of the city and the Black Forest.

    Make sure you explore La Petite France, Strasbourg's most picturesque district with its mix of half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, canals, and historic bridges. It was historically home to millers, tanners, and fishermen, and today offers quaint cafés, shops, and scenic walks.

    Grande Île, the historic centre and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features medieval churches, boutique shops, and charming streets that reflect Strasbourg's French-German heritage. Palais Rohan, an 18th-century palace, houses three museums: the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the Archaeological Museum, showcasing centuries of art, furniture, and historical artefacts. Place Kléber and Place Gutenberg are central squares with historical significance, lively markets, and statues honouring local figures.
