Our 9th Discovery Day in Cheltenham

After 777,600 minutes (18 months) of planning, it’s no surprise that the day itself seemed to go in a flash. But what a wonderful flash it was – we were delighted that so many of you (over 1,300) were able to join us in Cheltenham for our recent ‘Discovery Day’, and we hope that you enjoyed the event as much as we did.

Although facts and figures don’t tell the whole story, here are a few of our favourites:

  • 125 exhibitors
  • 68 Inntravel green t-shirts
  • 16 countries represented
  • 90 Amalfi lemons
  • 50 pots of home-made Alicante jam
  • 12 types of cheese
  • 8 winners of holidays
  • 3 e-bikes
  • 1 Portuguese Count
  • 1 pair of German bunny ears

As for smiling faces, helpful holiday tips and bottles of wine, we lost count!

Amid all the excitement, there was also one very fond farewell, as we said arrivederci  to our much-loved Italian consultant Carla Lenzi, who has helped to devise many of our fabulous Slow Holidays over the years. Such partnerships underpin everything we do, and Discovery Day provided a unique opportunity to reunite and celebrate the Inntravel ‘family’ – staff, hoteliers, taxi drivers, routefinders and of course customers.

In fact, the day was such a success that we’re already looking forward to doing it all again (though we may need another 777,600 minutes to recover first!). So we very much hope that you might be able to join us for Discovery Day 2020, wherever that might be! For now, though, we hope you enjoy browsing the newly updated collection of Slow Holidays on our website, perhaps picking out a few favourite destinations for 2018 and beyond...
Finally, here are a couple of comments on the day:

“I’m writing to let you know that my wife and I had an extremely enjoyable and an extremely productive morning with you and your exhibitors on Saturday. Our headline comment would be ‘this company really understands our age group and has saved us a lot of research (and mistakes)’. We’re not yet ready to make any bookings, but I’m sure you’ll be hearing from us next year!”
(Inntraveller Robert Hunter)
“What a marvellous event and great opportunity to meet Inntravel's loyal clients, motivated staff and managers as well as other country hosts. A huge thank you to all of you having organized such a great event. I should already confirm you our interest to join the Inntravel Discovery Day 2020!”
(Vaudoise Alpes exhibitor, Steve Beck)

If you were able to join us, we’d love to hear your impressions of the day, so please let us know via the comments box below...

Discovery Day on film

There’s so much to pack into Discovery Day: the last-minute preparations after all those months of planning; time spent chatting to our exhibitors; tasting, sipping and sampling; listening to some engaging presenters. And for the first time this year, we managed to capture some highlights on film...

Two minutes of Discovery Day 2017 >

New for 2018

We were thrilled that Francisco, Count of Calheiros, was able to join us for Discovery Day. His beautiful manor house features on our new walking holiday in northern Portugal, just one of the many exciting additions to our 2018 Slow Holiday collection.

We thoroughly enjoyed Discovery Day, it was a great opportunity to meet up with friends with whom we'd had a lovely Inntravel week in Corfu. The day gave us lots of ideas for future holidays: will it be the Dolomites, Andalusia, the Chablais Alps, La Palma...? so many to choose from, over the years to come! Every hotelier gave us excellent reasons for visiting his or her region and the Inntravel staff were all very helpful. Although it was a very wet Saturday afternoon, we felt we'd entered a world of sunshine and adventure. Looking forward to the Algarve next February.

Love the look of your day and only wish you could host one in about partnering up with a NZ-local travel show??

Is Carla the one with the glasses in the photo? If so, please pass on our best wishes - she has always been so helpful to us and we will miss her...
My highlight was being welcomed again by the Italian lady re with the Italian flag colour glasses(!) who took our photo last time to show to Bruno, who couldn't be at the previous Discovery Day.
Wonderful to see him again, get such a wonderful hug, and of course some of the famous Parmesan and wine!
