Food-focused holidays – where to go for great walking & great food
At Inntravel, we think good food and great walking go hand in hand. In fact, we design our holidays with gastronomic experiences in mind, allowing you to get to know a country through its dishes and wine-making traditions.

We highlight tavernas, mountain Hütte, bistros, pintxo bars and seafront seafood restaurants along our routes, having tried them ourselves or taken recommendations from our customers over the years.

Here we’re sharing how our holidays are more than just great walking – they’re about soaking up the scenery, tucking into a region’s classic dishes at the end of each day, seeking out the best places for some coffee and cake, and sampling local wines and beers as you go.

A few of our favourite foodie walks
We’ve selected three of our favourite destinations for their enticing gastronomy.

Liguria, Italy – home of pesto, focaccia & ravioli

Walking holidays in Italy guarantee high-quality dining experiences, but the Ligurian Coast, with its dazzling blue waters, sweeping headlands and world-famous cliffside villages, promises a real treat. Not only is seafood served in abundance, pesto Genovese also features on focaccia, lasagne and the myriad of pasta dishes on the menu.

Portugal – wine, cheese and all things seafood
From the Douro Valley’s renowned wineries to Lisbon’s cosmopolitan eateries, there’s no chance of going hungry in Portugal. Dishes like bacalhau à brás (salted cod with thin, crispy potatoes) and porco à alentejana (Alentejo-style pork and clams) help fuel a day’s sightseeing or walking.

Fife, Scotland – superb seafood
Freshly caught lobster, crab and fish are the focus throughout Fife. While walking the famed Fife Coastal Path, there are shacks grilling and serving up the day’s catch and plenty of restaurants to take your pick from. All you need to do is follow your nose.

Plan your foodie walking holiday
We can tailor your trip to suit you – the start date, the length, city add-ons, extra nights at certain hotels – we make it happen. All you need to do is bring your boots (and appetite).

Some of our hotels are home to Michelin-starred restaurants, like Orto at our hotel on the Ligurian coast, or you can stay at agriturismi in Piedmont’s Magical Valley where dinner is made using ingredients grown in the gardens.

There’s the chance to arrange foodie experiences such as a port tasting in Porto or a wine tasting on the Istrian peninsula.
Why Inntravel?
•    Hand-picked hotels – we carefully select independent, often family-run hotels, so you stay in the best location for nearby routes and restaurants.

•    Food and drink – we recommend places to eat and drink en-route, or where you can pick up picnic supplies, so you can sample the region’s gastronomy.

•    Go at your pace – our routes are self-guided, so you don’t have to rush lunch or eat at the first place you see. Enjoy taking your time to find tucked-away tavernas and rest your feet over a well-deserved aperitivo.
