I’ve recently returned from a trip to check the route notes for our walking holiday in northern Spain that explores 'The Rugged Hills and Coast of Asturias’. My base was in the small traditional village of Collia, an ideal location for accessing both the coast and mountains. For the most part the weather was glorious, and walking high amid the rugged peaks of the Picos de Europa and Ponga Natural Parks proved an unforgettable experience. The Rugged Hills & Coast of Asturias
Enjoy thrilling mountain walks amid the dramatic scenery of the Picos de Europa and Ponga Natural Parks in northern Spain. Based at the homely Posada del Valle in the tiny hamlet of Collia, you have easy access not only to the mountains, but also to the rugged coastline indented with long sandy bays and pretty villages.

The Picos de Europa and Collia
This classic mountain route takes you through some of Spain’s most splendidly dramatic landscapes, from the wild and remote-feeling Picos de Europa Mountains, which shelter rare birds and animals, to the rugged Atlantic Coast with its fishing ports and sandy bays, then west to the Sueve Sierra, where you finish with three nights at the charming Posada del Valle, mentioned above.
