The UK and Europe are often at their best from late August, with summer’s visitors largely gone and the weather still warm and settled. This year, holidaying later in the season is set to be especially popular, as many of us look to re-schedule earlier travels.
If gentle temperatures and glorious colours appeal, we have many holidays which are particularly tempting from late August.
In Catalonia, the end of summer marks the conclusion of the main tourist season – near emptying the cobbled streets of Girona and the beaches of the Costa Brava; a trip to the celebrated Douro Valley vineyards in September should mean the chance to experience the grape harvest; while in the UK, the tree-lined Thames Path is particularly picturesque as the leaves turn from green to gold, copper and rich, russet red.
