Car hire

  • Unless otherwise stated, your holiday includes an economy-size, 2-door car with manual transmission and air conditioning. For holidays in Norway, automatic vehicles are included as standard.

    The car hire voucher included with your tickets will specify the rental company and collection desk. To collect your car, simply follow the instructions on your voucher.

    As every party’s needs are different, our holidays include just one hire car regardless of group size. If you’re travelling with more than two people or would prefer extra space and comfort, we recommend upgrading to a larger car or hiring a second vehicle. Please get in touch for pricing.
  • Each holiday price panel states how many days’ hire is included in the price.

    Rentals are charged per 24-hour period, so if your flight arrangements mean that you have the car for longer than the period included in the normal holiday arrangements, there will be an extra day’s hire to pay. We will state this when we confirm your booking.

    If you are adding extra nights to your holiday, we usually (unless stated otherwise) include the cost of an extra day's hire in the extra night price if a hire car is included in the basic price of the holiday. If, however, a hire car is not normally included, it will be necessary to pay an extra day's hire in addition to the extra night price. Please contact us for prices (these vary greatly between destinations, and depend on the size of the car and the length of your stay).
  • Rental terms vary markedly from country to country. We send you a country-specific information leaflet with your Booking Confirmation and Invoice which details the included elements of your car hire and the additional or optional charges that apply at your destination. Please read the leaflet carefully before you collect your car so that you are aware of the up-to-date rental terms and any local charges that apply. In summary:

    Included in the rental agreement:
    • unlimited mileage
    • local taxes (eg VAT)
    • airport service charges
    • third party liability
    • one driver (named at the time of booking) §
    • Vehicle Damage Cover (no need to purchase additional insurance at the rental desk)
    • administration charges reated to damage or theft
    • Theft Waiver (TW - vehicle theft insurance - see below)
    • road fund and vehicle registration fees

    Not included in the rental agreement:
    • fuel
    • refuelling charges if you return your car without a full tank
    • personal insurance
    • additional driver fees (if applicable)
    • charges for extras such as GPS units and child seats (child seats must be requested at the time of booking)
    • one-way drop-off (unless stated otherwise)
    • Roadside Safety Net Service (RSN, an optional service for non-mechanical issues such as running out of fuel or losing keys)
    • administration fees for road traffic violations
    • any compulsory local charges (detailed in your country-specific leaflet)

    If you’re interested in adding a second driver, our team can advise whether one is already included. If not, the fee varies by destination – typically €10–13 per day – and is payable at the time of collection. There is no charge for a second driver on the Canary Islands if your car is booked through Cicar.
  • On collection of the vehicle, you will be asked to provide details of a major credit card as a means of deposit so that extra payments and optional charges such as for fuel, an additional driver and special equipment (eg GPS) can be billed to you. You will not be able to take the car without a credit card. Debit cards are not accepted. The credit card must be in the name of the lead driver.
  • Rental conditions require that drivers should normally be aged over 25 and have held a full driving licence for at least one year (two years in Croatia). A surcharge may apply to drivers aged 21–25; this is payable locally and we’ll confirm the cost at the time of booking.
  • Your car hire includes Full Vehicle Damage cover, so there’s no need to purchase additional insurance at the collection desk. If you are pressured to do so, please call the customer service number on your voucher – our team will speak directly to the rental staff to clarify your coverage.

    If your vehicle is provided by Cicar (Canary Islands), excess charges do not apply, and no further arrangements are necessary. If Cicar is unavailable and we book your vehicle with Holiday Autos, excess charges may apply. In this case, while insurance is provided, you may be required to pay the excess and reclaim it later through the insurance provider.
  • If you’re extending your Inntravel holiday independently, we can arrange a competitively priced car hire package from key towns and cities in your destination country – including within the UK. These arrangements require a minimum hire period of three days.
