How our touring holidays in Europe work

Touring holidays in Europe and North America

  • fulfilling touring holidays in Europe by rail, boat or car
  • discover awe-inspiring scenery and intriguing cities
  • superbly located hotels offering a warm welcome
  • detailed information provided to help you get to know your chosen destination

We believe that, by slowing down, you can see more. And that is what our collection of touring holidays in Europe – what we like to call Journeys – is all about. By resisting the temptation to whizz by in a blur, you get the chance to make some remarkable discoveries, entirely at your own pace. Landscapes, traditions and cultural nuances come more sharply into focus, and the views and colours seem more vivid along the way.

On & off the beaten track

As with all of our holidays, our touring holidays in Europe aim to reveal the authentic and unearth the little-known – we share some of the secret places you might otherwise not find. But sometimes it’s just as rewarding to take a unique slant on a more familiar location and so, with our years of experience, we show you the best way to go.

All the right ingredients

Our collection of Journeys bears the familiar hallmarks of our much-loved walking and cycling holidays: unspoiled scenery in some of Europe’s most beautiful corners; hotels of character where you receive a warm and genuine welcome; charming villages where time-honoured traditions still hold sway and where life moves to a slower beat; and tasty regional cuisine accompanied by local wines. Add to all this a real sense of journey, in which we weave together each region’s true highlights with some little-known discoveries and remarkable experiences along the way, and you have all the ingredients for a mouth-watering collection of adventures.

Accommodation of character & comfort

Common to all Journeys – whether you are staying in the heart of a city or in the middle of the countryside – are comfortable, family-run hotels which reflect the character of the place and which offer a warm welcome and high standards of service. Where there are limited restaurants nearby, we generally include dinner; at city or other hotels where there is a good choice of restaurants locally, you stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis so that you have the freedom to dine where you choose.

Detailed documentation

Because we want to ensure you get maximum benefit and enjoyment from your holiday, we provide you with detailed documentation. Along with cultural information and guidance on your train and/or boat journeys (or full driving instructions and maps if you are journeying by car), we provide suggestions for what to see and do at each place. If the best way to see a particular highlight is on foot, or if we have devised a walking trail of the city you are visiting, we include detailed route notes, though whether you make use of these is entirely up to you.

Carefully crafted itineraries, tailored for you

The regions we feature are ones we know well, through years of hard-won experience. Our itineraries feature what we consider to be the highlights of each region, in a logical and enjoyable order, but a hallmark of Inntravel holidays is flexibility. On many holiday pages you’ll find suggestions for how to extend your holiday, but we can tailor the arrangements in other ways, too, to suit you. You can choose the start date, how you travel to your holiday destination,  if/where to add extra nights, and whether or not to make any upgrades such as a larger hire car, superior bedrooms, or first-class travel on journeys by rail. We therefore recommend that you contact us to discuss the many options available to you to ensure you end up with your perfect holiday.
