Rome

Rome is without doubt one the most beautiful cities in the world; every year millions of tourists travel from far and wide to admire the treasures and masterpieces of Roman art and architecture. It’s a ‘must-see’ destination, a place where you can stand in awe before all those monuments and works of art that you (probably) learned about at school – and have never forgotten.
Rome is a city that is best savoured slowly, like a glass of earthy red Italian wine. Our walking tour will guide you to the city’s main sites – the Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Colosseum – discovering fountains, piazzas, arches, columns, bridges and temples along the way. Don’t try to do too much – make sure you leave time to relax over a cup of cappuccino or a scoop of famous Italian gelato at a street café – and simply watch the world go by.

 

Sightseeing

The key to Inntravel holidays is flexibility. You can start on the day of your choice, and are free to add extra nights.
  • Notes for a self-guided walking tour included
    Rome is a delight to explore on foot, though there is so much to see that our recommended self-guided walking tour can only offer a taster. However, with an early start you can take in the city’s much-loved sites combined with some true modern-day Roman experiences, such as Campo dei Fiori, where a market is held each weekday, and a stroll through the vibrant and formerly working-class neighbourhood of Trastevere.

    Many of the narrow cobbled streets and beautiful squares, such as the Piazza Navona and the area between the Spanish Steps and the Via Corso, have been pedestrianised, making wandering around a pleasurable experience. In recent years, many Renaissance façades have been repainted in their original delicate pastel colours, and almost 100 churches have been cleaned.

    And when the walking is done, head for the area just south of the Spanish Steps for dinner – a maze of intersecting side streets here, tucked between Via del Corso and Piazza Navona, contains dozens of restaurants, most of which have outdoor seating and offer typical Italian dishes – simple, fresh and delicious!

    Good quality holiday as usual with Inntravel. The walking directions are excellent, no further aids needed. Interesting hotels with good access to local eateries.

    Beautiful scenery and outstanding views with lovely wild flowers in April

    Nice hotels in very interesting towns  with Roman, medieval and Baroque buildings to explore.

     

    excellent local  seasonal food and local wine throughout the week

    We seemed to have had several issues on this holiday however the walking aspect of the holiday (apart from the dogs) was certainly an enjoyable challenge and some of the towns so beautiful.

    HIGHLIGHTS: Visit to Civita di Bagnoregio. Antica Enoteca wine bar and restaurant in Rome was absolutely fabulous, super atmosphere, welcoming, vibrant. Delicious food. Great young staff. We ate there both nights. Worth going back to Rome just to eat there again!
