This was our first holiday with Inntravel and we will definitely use them again. The flexibility allowed us to add on Pisa and Lucca before the walk. All the hotels were good and the walking instructions were accurate and easy to follow. We enjoyed all the walks and found that our walking time was consistently faster than the timings provided. We can highly recommend the cafe in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Pisa for a drink or lunch as the view was fantastic and the prices reasonable.
INNTRAVEL NOTE: These customers combined our walk Hill-Top Towns Of Tuscany with our city add-ons in Pisa and Lucca
The Ilaria hotel in Lucca provided free bicycles which was great for us to get around the town on. In Siena the number 6 bus comes by the hotel garden every half hour and an excellent way into the city. [These customers stayed at our city add-on hotels in Lucca and Siena as part of a tailored rail holiday in Tuscany] Florence seems to just get busier and busier every year, any time of the year so book early for the main attractions early to avoid the giant queues. If you haven't been to to Tuscany, Italy, I would say definitely go - the people, the countryside, the towns and villages, the food and drink are lovely there and we look forward to our next visit.
The Holiday was a great introduction to Tuscany, and we especially enjoyed our first two nights in Lucca. Great hotel. Tenuta Sant'Ilario is very peaceful and in a stunning setting. Of our trips and walks we thought Volterra and Radda were wonderful, not as busy as places like San Gimignano. We would also recommend exploring San Miniato, a little gem, it’s just off the map, but well sign posted. It is significant as one of the towns on the Vía Francigena, and is a wonderful authentic Tuscan town. The cathedral interior was beautiful, as is the very unusual ”painted“ Piazza next to the Cathedral. You can walk up to the tower, Torre de Frederico 11, where the views are amazing.
