Why choose a walking holiday in Scotland?

Thanks to the tranquillity, the glorious scenery and the wealth of history, walking and hiking trips in Scotland are full of rewards. In keeping with our Slow holiday philosophy, our carefully planned routes (described in easy-to-follow notes) allow plenty of time to savour the beauty of your surroundings. New - Loch Ness & the Great Glen Way

Whether lit up by bright sunshine or darkened by brooding clouds, the majestic landscape of the Great Glen and Loch Ness never ceases to impress, humble, and inspire. Staying at a gourmet 4-star hotel in Fort Augustus, you’re perfectly placed to explore not only the north shore of the loch, but also the quieter south shore, and can take your pick from a range of walks (including sections of the famous Great Glen Way long-distance trail), and optional loch cruises or cultural visits.

Walk Scotland your way

How are our walking holidays graded?

To be sure that an Inntravel walking holiday in Scotland is right for you – our walking holidays in both Fife and the Scottish Borders are at the easier end of the scale, while our exploration of Highland Perthshire is more challenging – read the definitions of our walking grades below. Remember that you needn’t walk every day if you prefer not to – if you’d rather spend non-itinerant days relaxing or sightseeing, that’s entirely up to you.

We also offer short break versions of each holiday – ideal if you only have a few days to spare.
  • Following the Fife Coastal Path to St Andrews is a fascinating experience, despite the ease of the trails. Your walks of 5-10km per day are brought to life by the area's constantly shifting seascape, by its wealth of marine and birdlife, by the dramatic castle ruins that rise from the land, and of course by the each of the picturesque fishing villages that line your way.
  • If you're looking to take on around 5-15km each day, with the occasional hill thrown in, our walking holiday in the Scottish Borders is perfect for you. As you follow the River Tweed through valleys, pastures, and low, heather-clad hills, you'll discover a fascinating area rich in nature, history, and tradition. We also give you the chance on this holiday to get up high, ascending through forest and across open moorland for outstanding views in all directions.
  • The most challenging of our Scottish walks takes place in Highland Perthshire, where our beautiful routes lead you to the region’s proud castles, picturesque towns, and world-class whisky distilleries. Expect to cover approximately 10-15km a day, and to enjoy a real variety of walking, with riverside strolls along stretches of the iconic Rob Roy Way complemented by thrilling ascents of such emblematic peaks as Ben Vrackie.
