Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.
superb downhill skiing away from the crowds
beautiful 4-star hotel with spa
great welcome and fine cuisine
breathtaking mountain views
The Valais region of southern Switzerland is better known for large ski resorts such as Verbier, and for the many skiers who flock here in winter. However, perched above the vines which line the banks of the Rhône and affording good views of the Matterhorn’s unmistakable 4,478-metre-high peak – encircled by many more of over 4,000 metres – lies the quietly sublime Val d'Anniviers. Occupying one of the country’s sunniest corners close to the Italian border, this beautiful valley’s steep slopes are dotted with pretty hamlets whose traditional wooden chalets have been burnt to a deep mahogany colour by the sun’s rays.
Would I go back? Yes, definitely – in the words of my sister, it’s the loveliest place in the world (and the skiing is great, too!).
Staff travel diary
It is in this undiscovered valley that you will find tranquil St-Luc, a charming village with easy access to marvellous downhill skiing on uncrowded slopes, and an ideal base for alpine skiers of all abilities. As befits such majestic surroundings, the 4-star Hotel Bella Tola offers suitably elegant accommodation. This is complemented by warm hospitality, wonderful cuisine and excellent facilities that include a spa complex, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day on the pistes.
