However you like to enjoy the snow, for a true get-away-from-it-all holiday amid the ethereal beauty of Salzkammergut’s lakes and mountains, the four-star Hotel Seerose in Fuschl am See is almost impossible to beat. Situated at the head of its eponymous lake, Fuschl is a picturesque village which, despite being a popular draw in summer on account of its idyllic surroundings, retains a wonderfully quiet atmosphere in winter.
My favourite part of the day here is evening – the sunsets are glorious, all the more so because the orange-pink sky is reflected in the lake.
Rebecca Bruce, Alpine Product Manager
The hotel is an equally relaxing place, especially given its superlative views over the lake to the hills beyond. It would be easy to stay here, swimming in the panoramic indoor pool or sitting with a drink on the lakeside terrace, but to do so would be to miss out. There is good cross-country and downhill skiing along the valley, but you needn’t don skis at all – you could make the most of the snowshoeing and winter walking instead, or take the bus to the charming town of St Gilgen or the vibrant city of Salzburg.
