Head to chic Zermatt in the very heart of the High Alps and you can enjoy some truly thrilling high-altitude walks. Here, you are surrounded by thirty peaks over 4,000 metres, including the mighty Matterhorn, its striking profile making it the most fêted of these towering mountains. Well-signposted paths cross the meadows and the rockier landscapes above, rewarding you with memorable views in all directions.
Nothing quite prepares you for your first glimpse of the unmistakable Matterhorn. It was truly breathtaking.
Zermatt is a car-free mountain village, where horse-drawn carriages and electric vehicles are the only means of transport. There is an extensive network of ski lifts and cable cars, enabling year-round skiing, as well as a vast range of open-air and indoor sports, fitness and health facilities. Other activities include tennis and paragliding, and there is a wealth of mountain walks, with 400 kilometres of maintained trails, along which you can discover the flora and fauna of the Alpine pastures, experience the peace and beauty of the Alps, enjoy the breath-taking views and relax in the mountain restaurants.
