Why not take the train?
You can leave London St Pancras or Ebbsfleet in the morning and be at your destination by the evening, making it an excellent (not to mention environmentally friendly) way to reach this holiday. You can relax right from the start of your journey as Eurostar services whisk you through the Channel Tunnel to connect with the world-famous French high-speed TGV trains in either Paris or Lille. We reserve seats for you, there is plenty of luggage space, and refreshments are available on board.
You may even break your journey in Paris if you are travelling via the capital. Sit back and enjoy a truly great rail journey! Look for the ‘by rail’ prices in the Prices & Travel section, where you will also find journey details.
self-guided hotel-to-hotel walking, luggage transported
rewarding and flexible routes
wonderful hospitality and rich traditions
picture-book, flower-bedecked villages
sunny climate
The little-discovered Val d'Anniviers, a high valley with a strong individuality in the French-speaking Valais in the south, is one of Switzerland's loveliest corners, its picture-book villages immersed in awe-inspiring high-mountain scenery. Walking here is tremendous and thoroughly rewarding. As you wind your way along the mountain paths, on a clear day you will glimpse the mighty Matterhorn beyond the head of the valley. Enjoy high standards of hospitality, too, with delicious cuisine (featuring lake and river fish, game in season, and mountain cheeses) and tasty wines from the Rhône Valley below.
The constant tinkling of cowbells added a magical quality to our walks as we headed ever-upward through pretty flower-filled meadows.
The Val d'Anniviers enjoys one of the sunniest climates in Switzerland, with wonderful summer flowers and many fine days in September. The itinerary is completely flexible for those who want to take things a little easier.
