Walking boots by Lowa UKWe were delighted to team up with European walking boot manufacturers Lowa recently, to support their ‘Lowa Fit Challenge’ initiative. Although they are the no.1 boot maker in Europe, enjoying a high reputation along the continent’s most exhilarating paths and trails, Lowa are relatively unknown to British walkers and their sturdy, expertly engineered footwear is still in relatively limited distribution among outdoor stockists. It was with this in mind that the team at Lowa launched their Fit Challenge campaign, whereby members of the public could earn the chance to win an Inntravel walking break merely by visiting a store and trying on a pair of Lowa boots.

The rationale for this comes from the company’s unswerving faith in the quality of their product. As they say: “We are so confident about our footwear’s fit that we believe, once you realise the level of comfort offered, you won’t want to look elsewhere.”

Steve Jack of Inntravel, ready to walk....And so it was that I took a lovely drive across the Pennines one Saturday afternoon to the venerable local retailer, BAC Outdoor Leisure on Coronation Street in Elland, West Yorkshire. Surrounded by brooding hills and dark, Yorkshire stone buildings, this family-run institution offers expert and patient advice, plus an Aladdin’s cave of specialist outdoor goods. Admittedly, I had been a little sceptical of Lowa’s marketing claim, but – I had to admit – the fit was perfect!

It is now several weeks later, and my new pair of Lowa Khumbu TC GTX walking boots (pictured above) have been tested on the paths of the Yorkshire Dales, the rugged North York Moors, and – most recently – in 100mph arctic-style gales along Striding Edge in the Lake District.

I am happy to say that they have, as promised, met these challenge magnificently, and my feet have never felt more comfortable.

Here at Inntravel, we do everything we can to make your walking experiences as enjoyable as possible. While we can’t control your choice of that all-important footwear, we can assure you that a pair of good-quality, comfortable boots will add to the whole experience.

And, being something of a convert now myself, I would suggest that those from Lowa are well worth a try.

Good footwear is essential for enjoyable walking
