Three very different cities, each with their own character. We enjoyed the recommended walks which took us around all the different areas of the cities and included a view of all the highlights. We had plenty of time to visit a selection of attractions in each city. In Copenhagan we particularly enjoyed climbing the tower at the Church of Our Saviour for superb views over the whole of the city and harbours. In Stockholm our highlight was the Vasa museum and in Helsinki the Fortress and Islands of Suomenlinne. The length of time in each city was just right, but we were pleased we had an extra night in Helsinki to give time for a day trip to Tallin, another beautiful city with its own distinct character. At the end of February, beginning of March, the cities had a very relaxed feel, relatively quiet with no need to pre-book entry times to attractions, although we did need to book evening meals during the afternoon of each day to ensure a table at our preferred time.
Nice holiday, nice hotels, walks were good but the Helsinki walk could do with being made seasonal. It referred to football pitches which were ice rinks!
This was a great trip. All the travel information was excellent and very useful. Loved that we used so many different forms of transport. The recommendations from the Inntravel guide were very good, as were some from previous reviews. In Copenhagen, the boat tour is an excellent starting point. There is a new app issued by the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) that has buildings of interest marked with information (and an interactive map) - it is excellent, as is their museum at their building called Blox. In Stockholm, we again used the guide to explore - Vasa Museaum was excellent. In Helsinki, we used the local ferry to go to Suomenlinna and the bus to get to the zoo. Could not get the HSL app to work but it is easy to buy tickets at the machines. All the travel was easy, well organsied and seamless. Helsinki was very cold (-20) and icy so we explored on foot less here. We coincided with the Lux Light Festival which was OK. Dinner at Savotta overlooking the cathedral all lit up was great. Eating out was expensive but we did have some lovely food.

This is an amazing trip. The cities are all interesting and beautiful with a wealth of things to see and do but the real highlight for us were the train and ferry journeys. Standing on deck while the ferry leaves Stockholm and then arrives in Helsinki the next day is an absolute must do.
Highlights: The waterfront walk on arrival in Copenhagen, walking along the quays at night under the lovely subdued street lighting. The horses in the Christianborg Palace. Riding around on the buses when it was raining (and seeing the Elephant Gate.) If you get a day travel pass less than 24 hours before your train time on the day before you leave, you can use it that day AND to get you to the station the next day. There is a bus just around the corner - straight to the station and no stairs.
Stockholm - so much water! The old centre. The walk across to Soderhalm (relaxed and a bit arty) and the views from Monteliusvagen. Leaving by boat at sunset through the archipelago. Arriving at Helsinki at sun up through the islands. Real winter in Helsinki. Beautiful light. The Rock Church and the Sibelius monument (mad!)
As the hotels were so central and as our timings were so good, we were able to use public transport (Metro) and a short walk to get to each of the 3 hotels. The Travel Pack (small black file) was so useful and accurate in this respect and also covered a bit of history, popular sights and suggested walks - and we did them all!
In Copenhagen, we would also reccommend Restaurant 1733 for good value Danish food and a friendly atmosphere. It was a great tip to do the one-hour Grand Tour canal trip - we went on the red boat - brilliant commentary. Stockholm was also wonderful and it is quite easy to get to the Vartahamen Terminal by Metro (one stop) and a shortish walk (second half of which is overcover). Helsinki was just as amazing and wonderful - thanks for the tip about circular trip around the city by tram - and a highlight for us was the traditional Finnish sauna only 10 minutes from the hotel and on the quayside.
